The KS-FOOTSTEPS mail list is just beginning on April 2002 and will hopefully become a major part of the KSGenWeb Project.
- What is KS-FOOTSTEPS?

This list is the place for you to share your original Kansas source material... wills, deeds, bible records, tax lists, cemetery files, pension applications, obituaries, old letters, marriage lists, etc... with other Kansas researchers.
Please note that queries are not allowed.

SUBMISSION FORMS:
These forms at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/
allow you to type your record and submit it.
This will create a file in a format acceptable for KSArchives and ready for posting.
These forms are not mandatory and if you have data already typed please send it in text
format to the Archives File Manager. Copies of the information will be sent to the
KS-FOOTSTEPS-L list.

- How to Subscribe
- You can join in either mail mode or digest mode. To Subscribe you need to send an Email with either the word SUBSCRIBE as the only word in the body of the message, and leave subject line of the message blank. Do not put anything else, including your name, and if you have a signature file, please turn it off.
How to Unsubscribe
You can unsubscribe in either mail mode or digest mode. To Unsubscribe you need to send an Email with either the word UNSUBSCRIBE as the only word in the body of the message, and leave subject line of the message blank. Do not put anything else, including your name, and if you have a signature file, please turn it off.
Note: if you subscribe to the list in digest mode you must unsubscribe from it in digest mode as well.
How to submit your information
To post your information to the list, send an email to:

Please follow these guidelines when submitting your information in order for readers to quickly know if it is something they might be interested in reading or want to delete:
In the subject line put:
TYPE OF FILE: Surname, date, county
For instance if your file concerns one individual or surname:

OBIT: Smith, 1903, Seward Co
WILL: Jones, 1878, Norton Co
CENSUS: Brown, 1860-1870, Franklin Co
If your information is a complete list of all available records:
-
TAX LIST: 1808, Otoe Co
If your information is too large for a single email please submit it showing part numbers:
- CEM: St Mary's, Otoe Co, part 1 ( part 2 or # 1 # 2, etc)
- MARR: Billings Co, 1860-1880, A's (etc)
If you are unsure of what to use for your subject send me an email.
Is the list archived somewhere?
The digest of the mail list is being placed in the KSGenWeb Archives.
Archives Search Engine
If you don't know which specific region to begin in, the USGenWeb Archives National Search Engine
is a good place to start.
There you may search by Surname or other key-words.
