HAMILTON County, bordering on Colorado, has four counties in Kansas between
it and Nebraska; two -- Stanton and Kansas -- between it and the Indian Territory; twelve
between it and the counties of Lin and Bourbon, on the eastern border; It contains 977
square miles. There are sand hills in the southeastern portion of the county. The railroad
stations are Aubrey, Syracuse, Midway and Coolidge, formerly Sargent.1
Organized January 29, 1886. County seat, Syracuse. In honor of General
Alexander Hamilton, the great American statesman; he was killed in a duel
with Aaron Burr, July 11, 1804.2
