Mon Mar 24 10:42:20 1997 I have been researching the WAUGHTEL family for many, many years. While going through some older papers I have come across an item and from Washington County, stating: Monday Nov. 2, 1829. Released from taxes: Frederick Waughtel poll tax for 1827; two horses for John Muckles, one for John Zigler and one for Fred Waughtel all for 1827 and who it appears were insolvent and should have been so returned at that time; Monday May 2, 1836. Treasurer ordered to pay: Edmund D. Turner for conveying F. Waughtel to asylum. Can you translate all this for me? As to Frederick Waughtel only. I am in hopes of being able to follow up on this and find out what happened to Frederick Waughtel. This is the last bit of information that I have on him. His son James married (1) 1835 (2) 1837 and I have both marriage records and have been able to follow through on this. His daughter Jane married (1) 1838 (2) 1840 and I have marriages on her. Also have the offspring of both James (who is my direct ancestor) and Jane. There was one other son and one other daughter that I have not been able to find anything on. Frederick's first wife (my line) Patsy Knot/ts WAUGHTEL must have died prior to December 23, 1828 as Frederick remarried - to a Susannah Boatman. Can anyone help me with Frederick & Patsy (might her name have been Martha?) and their other two children? Thank you. Antoinette Waughtel Sorensen |

Apr 18 00:23:17 1997 I am researching the surname FORDER. William (m. Mary Wells in England c. 1836) and his brother George immigrated to Salem, IN about 1840. William and Mary FORDER had twelve children, 6 sons and 6 daughters. One girl and one boy died in infancy. The only known names of the siblings are Milton, my wife's greatgrandfather, Charlotte and Anne Forder. They along with their parents, William & Mary, and uncle George moved to Dassel Minnesota about 1865. The four remaining sons fought in the Civil War and three were killed in the war. The three remaining daughters married in Indiana and moved to the State of Washington. Furthermore William and/or George adopted two boys. Any detailed information on the four sons who fought in the war, the three daughters, and two adopted boys would be appreciated. I suspect that the sons fought in the "battle" at Salem against a Confederate Colonel Morgan. Is there a monument to that battle, cemetery or any associated list with the names of those who fought in that battle? I understand about 400 were killed. |
