Sat Sep 28 21:09:50 1996 My paternal grandfather's mother Eliza Ann KEITH was born and raised in Decatur County. She was the daughter of Susanna VANTREESE & James Harvey KEITH (who died in the Civil War). She had 4 brothers. Eliza Ann married John WAUGHTEL and they had 7 children according to the hospital records where she died. The eldest being my grandfather Rome WAUGHTEL who served in the Spanish American war, married in Wyoming to my grandmother and they had one child, my father Roma James. Other children were Ora (who removed to PA and lived his remaining years there), Clem who served in the Spanish American War, returned, married & lived remaining life in Indianapolis. Elroy who was aka Edgar Elroy (Roy) and Edward Elroy, found in census in Boys Home, later married in Ohio and remained there except for a few years in Washington State. I have birth certificates of two daughters Janet 1882 and Antoinette 1884 but nothing else is known of these two daughters. In the father John Waughtel's obituary in 1932 it stated he had 5 sons of first marriage. Who was the fifth son. There is a possibility of a Homer or a Scott. Homer was in a census being mutually adopted by the JOLLIFFE family. Who and how are the JOLLIFFE's connected? To the WAUGHTEL? Or the KEITH? Eliza Ann died 1889, I have death record. I also have marriage record of John & Eliza Ann. I have asked many questions referencing Eliza Ann but seems someone wants to keep her hidden. Why? Any information on this family is desired. Any help will be received with wide open arms. Thank you. Antoinette Waughtel Sorensen email waughtel@oz.net |

18:38:12 1996 I am trying to find out who my great grandmother was living with after her father died in 1859 or 1860. The particulars follow: My great grandmother was Mary Jane CHASTAIN b. Jan 6, 1848 in Henry Co., KY. She was the daughter of George CHASTAIN and Sarah Ann THOMPSON both born around 1820. Sarah was the 2nd wife of George and they were married 22 Oct 1846 in Oldham Co., KY. Apparently, Sarah died prior to 27 Nov 1849 because George then married Virginia Mann. George died in late 1859 or early 1860 as his wife is named as head of household in 1860 census. Mary Jane was found in 1850 census but not in 1860 census. I think she may have come to Washington County to live with relatives because of the following. My great great grandparents were John CHASTAIN and Sarah STATON. They may have lived a short while in Washinton Co., IN about 1819. John had apparently bought the southwest quarter of section 23 in Vernon Township on March 15, 1818. He later sold this land to his brother William CHASTAIN who evidently was a resident of Washington Co., IN. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who might have knowledge of the CHASTAIN family. |

I also have a copy of his Marriage Certificate which lists his name as both EDMUND LAMB and EDWARD LAMB. Edward was 23 years old on August 12, 1888 when he married Emma Tipps in Canton, Washington County, Indiana. It lists his county of birth as Floyd County, Indiana. His father is listed as LEWIS LAMB and his mother as CHRISTINA LIBBY. I have reviewed the extensive geneology at the Floyd County Library several years old and a file on a Mary Lamb, but was unable to find a connection for Edward. The Lambs also appear to have move to Champaign, Illinois as some point because Edward's son, John H. Lamb, was born there. </b> |

5 17:27:45 1996 SCOTT County and WASHINGTON County QUERY - December 5, 1996 Surname RUDE or ROOD AM looking for information about and descendants of brothers Barzilla RUDE (b. 9OCT1804 d. 24FEB1868)and Israel RUDE (b. 1798 d 2AUG1871). Both lived in Washington County for a period of time before settling in Scott County. Barzilla is my great-great grandfather and married Eliza MAGILL (1st wife), daughter of John MAGILL, Revolutionary War veteran buried in Rodman Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington County. I'm also interested in finding more information aboutthe MAGILLs. Barzilla and Israel were the sons of John RUDE and Martha ? Martha is buried in Salem's Crownhill Cemetery but I can't find any trace of John. |
