EBENEZER CEMETERY
Greetings to all on the Genweb research channel. A great way to find new
connections. I'm looking for someone to run over to the Switz County library for me. The library told me that a copy of a Plat of Survey for Ebenezer Cemetery, Moorefield is available. Many of my ancestors are laid to rest there but the momuments are down and I couldn't find grave sites. Would like a copy, a zerox would be ok.

I recently applied to the DAR through my Gurley lineage, and am awaiting (with fingers crossed) completion of their verification process.

HAYS
I am trying to find any information on HAYS surnames in the Switzerland Co., IN area in the early to mid 1800's. I have a Louis P. HAYS, of Dover, Delaware, married to a Mary J. CHELMAN also from Dover, having a child named John Collins HAYS June 29, 1844, possibly marrying a Mary HARTER in that area. I am having a heck of a time finding this family. On John Collins HAYS death certificate, it states that he was born in Switzerland IN, but no town is attached to that, so I am assuming that the County is what is meant. BUT..... I have also been told that this could also have meant Jefferson Co. IN at that time because of shifting borders. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Happy Holidays!

Cemetery Inscriptions:
Can anyone tell me how to get in touch with the person or persons who is
responsible for cemetery records in Switzerland Co.? I am particularly
interested in Ebenezer, Long Run, and Zion "Tater Bug" Cemeteries. Also
I have heard that there is a book of Switzerland Co. cemetery inscriptions written by someone named Morford. Does anyone know where I could order that? I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Note from R. Hoggatt: The book "Switzerland County, Indiana, Cemetery Inscriptions, 1817 - 1985" was compiled by Wanda L. Morford - copyright 1986 (ISBN 0-961-6543-09). I believe Ms. Morford has passed away. She was from Cincinnati. The Jefferson and Switzerland County Libraries have copies of the book. One might want to write to the Switzerland County Historical Society to see if anymore copies are available or to the Switzerland County Historical Museum at 210 E. Market St., Vevay, IN 47043 (812-427-3560).
SCHMIED / FLAKE
I recently obtained a death certificate for Louisa (Schmied) Peak, who I found in the cemetery inscription book as having died in Feb. of 1902 in Florence. Her parents are listed as Frederic Schmied and Nancy Flake. She is listed as being born in Dearborn County. She must be related to Adam Flake and Elizabeth (Stuff) Flake, who settle in Dearborn County in 1796. However, their daughter Nancy, was born in 1809 and married someone else (Buffington). Frederic had four children, Elizabeth (Born 1815), Charles (Born 1816), Louisa (Born 1823) and Willliam (Born 1827). He is buried in the Vevay cemetery alongside son William. Charles is also buried at Vevay alongside his wife Charlotte (Krutz) Schmied. Charlotte must have been the daughter of Charles Krutz. Frederic Schmied is my g-g-g grandfather. Charles Krutz is also my g-g-g grandfather. Any info on the Flake, Krutz or Schmied connections would begreatly appreciated. Also, info on where to look in Indiana for more info would be helpful.
