My ancestor Marcus HARRIS was born in Indiana 1826. I believe
he was son of Jacob HARRIS, pioneer of your county. Both Marcus
and a Thomas HARRIS appear in 1850 Illinois (Rock Island area)
census as neighbors. Thomas is said to be descendant of Jacob
HARRIS of your county (Jacob's son and born 1816 in Ohio) in
local Rock Island history book. I seek verification that Marcus
was also son of Jacob HARRIS.

My grandmother was born in Mishawaka 2-9-29. Her name is Eleanor
Eugenia (Brinck) Graham. She now resides in Texas. Her parents
were Francis Eleanor (Herzog) Brinck, born 2-7-1897, and Chester
Charles Brinck, born ?. Chester's father was the mayor of Mishawaka
for a period of time unknown to me. I am trying to find out Chester
and Fran's parents names, I know Chester is from there, and I think
Fran is, as well. My problem is that when an ancester of Chester
fought in the Civil War (assuming Union, Regiment ?) his surname was
Romberg (uncertain of spelling) and since there were 2 Rombergs
in his company, he was told that he would have to change his name.
He changed it to Brinck. I am looking for information on Fran's and
Chester's parents and am hoping to find out anything about this
name change...how to spell Romberg, his regiment, company...etc
anything.
Also, I know that Fran's father owned a furniture store: Herzog's
Furniture, and that she was of german descent, possibly 2 or 3
generations from immigrants. Her family was devoutly Catholic, with
several nuns in the family. She had a sister named Mildred Mary
Herzog who never married but was born 10-6-1893.
