I am looking for my grandmother Clara May Sims siblings and parents. There were 7 children. Some of them are Hershel (Herschel), Edward and a sister Louise who may have married a deJarnett. My grandmother was born in 1880 in Effingham, IL the family moved to Terre Haute in 1882-3 and the mother was murdered while pregnant with 8th child. The children were put in an orphanage. The children all stayed in the area except my grandmother was taken to San Francisco. Please check surrounding towns and counties. Searching for descendents of David and Janet POLITE. David and Janet moved to Michigan around 1844 and had five children Joseph, John, Mary Jane, Emery and Emily. Joseph and John were born in New York, the other children were born in Branch county Michigan. Joseph was a Civil War veteran and according to a book on Michigan Soldiers and Sailors in the Civil War, was said to be living in the Elkhart area after the war. He married Harriet BROWN (BORON) 01 OCT 1865 in Coldwater Michgian. David was born around 1817 and early records indicated that his place of birth was the Atlantic Ocean. On other census records he notes his place of birth as Canada and New York. On the 1894 Muskegon county census, Emery notes his father's parents place of birth as England. I have been unable to determine Janet's maiden name and where/when she and Emery were married. Census records indicate her place of birth as Ireland.

I am looking for any descendents of Joseph Polite, son of David and Janett Polite. Joseph was a Civil War veteran from Michigan serving in the 19th Michigan Inf. and Michigan Battery D. Joseph married 01 OCT 1865 in Coldwater to Harriet A. Brown possibly spelled Boron. After discharge from the Army 03 Aug 1865, Joseph was believed to be living in the Elkhart, Indiana area. Of particular interest to me is finding out any information I can about Joseph parents. David was born ~1817 enroute to North America from England. Janett (maiden name may be KIDD) was born ~1818 in Ireland and may have emigrated to the USA around 1826. She and David married in New York more than likely, Joseph and his brother John were born, there. The other children, Emery, Emily and Mary Jane were born in Michigan.

I am looking for information regarding the Gatchel family. I believe MARY LAURETTA GATCHEL was born in Elkhart Co, IN, 6 FEB 1847. Her parents are ELLIS GATCHEL and MARY DAVIS. Her brothers HARMON GATCHEL and WREAK GATCHEL fought in the Civil War for the Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Both died. Other siblings are JANE GATCHEL MARTHA GATCHEL, and MAGDELANA GATCHEL.

BERKEY - Seeking info on Jacob BERKEY and his wife Sarah LINT BERKEY. They were both born in PA and moved to Elkhart Co, IN about 1850. Jacob was a Dunkard Minister. Family later moved to Texas about 1881 where Jacob drown attending to a church member on March 5, 1882. He is buried in TX although his wife Sarah who died 26 Oct 1888 in buried in Clinton Union Cemetery in Clinton Township in Elkhart CO. Would like to find an obit for Jacob. Also would like to find parents of Sarah Lint Berkey.
