J. D. Watson | Mar 19 1997 | Searching for information on John Robert WATSON and his wife Martha (WHITE) Watson, believed to be in Rock Island County 1 January 1859. My grandfather, George Calvin Watson, claimed Rock Island County as his place of birth on that date. Martha (White) Watson is believed to have died about 1861 and George Calvin and his brother, Howard, were fostered to the family of Valentine FUHR (FORE) seen in 1860 census on page 357 of the Buffalo township listing. Uncertain as to whether Buffalo township is the same as modern Buffalo Prairie township. George Calvin Watson and Howard Watson do Not appear with the Fuhr family in the 1860 census. Family tradition, although notoriously unreliable, holds that the father, John Robert Watson, had come to IL to escape prosecution for a murder, possibly in MO. This may account for difficulty in tracing this family. The fostering of the two boys to the Fuhr (Fore) family appears to have been informal. The boys are said to have lived with this family for a number of years (1861-1873?) Any information concerning this Watson family would be greatly appreciated. |

Charles & Maria had 4 children: Charles C., Henry Norton (Nort), James B. and Phoebe. James B. REYNOLDS was born in Rock Island County, Illinois on Mar. 27, 1858. I do not know when the family moved from Morgan County up to Rock Island County. All 3 brothers went on to homestead in Stanton County, Kansas where James B. REYNOLDS met and married Sadie Louise ALLER. Charles C. later moved on to Montrose, Colorado. (Any info on his descendants would be greatly appreciated.) Henry Norton REYNOLDS moved to the place known as Jene Floyd Place, which I do not know where that is. (Anyone with any input as to his descendants, I'd love to hear from you.) James B. REYNOLDS later died at the home of his son, William REYNOLDS, in Salem, Oregon. Phoebe REYNOLDS married a man named James BELL, and she died in Anderson County, Kansas. John McDonald | Sep 26 1997 | Here are two long-standing questions in my own Rock Island County research. My great grandfather, John MCDONALD, was raised in Moline. He had a number of sisters, and I'm trying to get a couple of their death dates. Alice McDonald (b. 1858) married Daniel CLARKE 1880 in Moline. She was alive and living in Moline at the time of my great grandfather's death in 1930. Mary McDonald (b. ca 1855) married William COATES in 1894 in Moline. (An earlier husband had been Washington HUEY.) She was also alive and living in Moline in 1930. Another sister, Flora ANDERSON died in East Moline in 1937, and there is no mention of Alice or Mary as survivors. I'm trying to find dates and places of death of Alice and Mary, possibly between 1930 and 1937 and very likely in Rock Island County. |
Ken Nordtvedt | Sep 26 1997 | My ancestors: Felix Caleb LEEDS family and Marcus HARRIS lived in Edgington Township, Rock Island County. They appeared as neighbors in 1850 census. Mary Scherer | Nov 07 1997 | I think I may have found one of my relatives but need some help. I had a great uncle Martin MAHER and think he may have been a priest in Warsaw. I know that is in Hancock County and not near Rock Island but wondered if any of you know the name of the Catholic church and perhaps the address in Warsaw. These queries are supposed to be about Rock Island but they did live and farm in Carbon Cliffs when the kids were small so there really is a connection. |
