Emma John Neal Reid (July 6, 1868, Mecklenburg County-January 26, 1937,
Mecklenburg County) was the daughter of Confederate Veteran George
Alexander Neal and his wife, Leatha Ausley Rodden. Emma is buried at the
Mulberry Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mecklenburg County.

Will of Emma Johnson Neal Reid

I, Mrs. Emma J. Reid, of Mecklenburg County, State of North Carolina, do
make, declare and publish this my last will and testament.
1. My Executor hereinafter named shall pay all my funeral expenses
together with all my just debts, together with a suitable marker at my
grave.
2. I make the following bequests, and give, devise and bequeath to the
following persons, associations and organizations as follows:
(a) To my brother W. A. Neal, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to his heirs, the sum of $4,000.00.
(b) To my brother G. L. Neal, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to his heirs, the sum of $4,000.00.
(c) To my niece, Reamer Neal Underwood, if living at the time of my
death, and if not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(d) To my  niece, Frankie L. Neal, if living at the time of my death,
and if not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(e) To my niece, Emma A. Neal, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(f) To my niece, Nettie Neal, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(g) To my nephew, B. A. Neal, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(h) To my nephew, G. C. Neal, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1000.00, (having already given him
$500).
(i) To my nephew, Harrill Neal, if living at the time of my death, and
if not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(j) To my nephew, Vernon Neal, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(k) To my nephew, Clifton Sample Neal, if living at the time of my
death, and if not living to her heirs, the sum of $1500.00.
(l) To my nephew, Calvin A. Neal, if living at the time of my death, and
if not living to her heirs, the sum of $1000.00, (having already given
him $500).
(m) To my Cousin R. S. Reid, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1000.00.
(n) To my cousin, W. C. Reid, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1000.00.
(o) To my cousin L. A. Reid, if living at the time of my death, and if
not living to her heirs, the sum of $1000.00.
(p) To my cousin, Mrs. Mamie Reid Thompson, if living at the time of my
death, and if not living to her heirs, the sum of $1000.00.
(q) To my cousin, Mrs. Lottie Reid Caldwell, if living at the time of my
death, and if not living to her heirs, the sum of $1000.00.
(r) To my friend, Mrs. Hazel Pillow Green, $1000.00 if living at the
time of my death, if not living at my death the said $1000.00 to be a
part of the residuary fund.
(s) To Miss Annie Rhyne, a trained nurse who nursed me, $1000.00, if
living at the time of my death, if not living at the time of my death
the said $1000.00 to go into the residuary fund.
(t) To Miss Mabel McArver, a trained nurse, $500.00, if living at the
time of my death; if not living at the time of my death the said $500.00
to go into the residuary fund.
(u) To Emma Catheryne Reid, a namesake, $1000.00, if living at the time
of my death, if not living at the time of my death to go to her heirs.
(v) To Mrs. Renna Neal Lee, $500.00 if living at the time of my death,
if not living at the time of my death to go to her heirs.
(w) To Dr. Jno. Q. Myers, in appreciation of his faithful professional
services rendered me, $1000.00, if living at the time of my death, if
not living at the time of my death the said $1000.00 to go into the
residuary fund.
(x) To the Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte, North Carolina, $500.00.
(y) To Barium Springs Orphanage $500.00.
(z) To the Ministerial Relief of the Southern Presbyterian Church
$500.00.
(aa) To Home Mission Board of Southern Presbyterian Church $500.00.
(bb) To Foreign Mission Board of Southern Presbyterian Church $500.00.
(cc) To Mulberry Presbyterian Church of Mecklenburg County, North
Carolina, $500.00.
(dd) To the Board of Trustees of Mulberry Presbyterian Church of
Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, $1000.00 for upkeep and care of my
lot in the cemetery at Mulberry Church; the said fund to be a perpetual
fund and the income or interest from the same to be used in the upkeep
and care of said lot.
3. I give , devise and bequeath to my brother, W. A. Neal, and his
heirs, and to my brother G. L. Neal, and his heirs all the balance or
residue of my estate of every nature and description, one-half of same
to go to W. A. Neal and his heirs and one-half of same to go to G. L.
Neal and his heirs.
4. I hereby constitute and appoint Plummer Stewart my lawful Executor of
this my last Will and Testament with full instructions, authority and
power to carry out each and every part of same; in the event the said
Plummer Stewart is not living at the time of my death, I appoint the
Independence Trust Company as Executor of this Will; all my property
shall be appraised by the Clerk of the Court immediately after my death
and the Executor shall be required to give bond in the amount of the
appraised value of said property; my Executor is hereby given the right,
power and authority to sell off real estate either at private or public
sale as such times as he deems advisable and to the best interest of the
estate. It is my desire that the Executor shall fully wind up my estate
within two years after my death; but the date of final settlement my be
extended beyond two years in the discretion of my two brothers, W. A.
Neal and G. L. Neal, and the Executor.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said Mrs. Emma J. Neal to
be her last Will and Testament, in the presence of us, who, at her
request and in her presence, and in the presence of each other, do
subscribe our names as witnesses thereto.
