JOHN LANGHAM WILL

WRITTEN 1765

In the name of God Amen, the twenty-second day of October 1765, I John Langham 
of ye County of Mecklinburg (sic), Shewmaker (sic), being sick and weak in 
body, But of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God therefore, 
calling unto mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed 
for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this last will and testament, 
that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into 
the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to 
be buried in decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my executorS:   
nothing doubting but at Ye general resurrection I will receive the same again 
by Ye might power of God (unreadable) Such worldly estate where with it hath 
please God to bless me in that life I give (unreadable) and dispose of ye same 
in ye following manner and

(Unreadable)  I give and bequeath to Comford my dearly beloved wife the one 
third parts of my land which I now possess during her lifetime, likewise I 
give and bequeath to my said wife one bay horse branded on Ye rear butick thus 
WH and one sorrel horse branded on Ye rear buttick thus T.  Likewise I give ye 
said wife one third part of Ye movable

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Saragh (sic) Hagerty ye sum of five 
shillings proclamation

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Jean McCoy ye sum of five shillings

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Comford Osburn ye sum of five 
shillings proc

Item I give to my two well loved sons William Langham and Abel Langham all and 
singular the remainder of my lands and movable estate to be divided Equally 
between ye above said William and Abel and at their mother's death her third 
of ye land be divided share and share alike between ye William and 
Abel_____________________________
Likewise, Comford Langham my Beloved wife whome (sic) I constitute make and 
ordain my sole executrix of this my last will and testament and I do hereby 
utterly disallow, revoke and Disanull (sic) all and every other former 
legitimate wills, legacies, and bequests and executors by me in any ways 
before named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and Confirming this and no 
other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have unto set my 
hand and seal the day and year above written_____________

Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by ye said John Langham as his 
last will and testament, in the presence of us, the Subscribers,
