STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA    COURT OF PLEAS & QUARTER SESSIONS  MECKENBURG COUNTY
April Term, 1838

SAMUEL H. SMITH
      vs.
B. M. FLANAGAN

Original Attachment: Levied on two Negroes, the property of the Defendant, viz.
a girl named NANCY, aged 11, and a boy named, WALLACE, aged six years.

It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the defendant, B. M. 
FLANAGAN, is not an inhabitant of this State. It is therefore  ordered by the 
Court that publication be made for six successive weeks in the Charlotte 
Journal notifying said defendant, non-resident, to be and appear at our next 
Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions to be held for Mecklenburg county at the 
Court House in Charlotte on the 4th Monday in July next. Then and there to 
plead, answer of demur to this petition filed. Otherwise judgment will be 
taken pro confesso and the matter will be heard ex parte as to them. Witness, 
BRALEY OATES, Clerk of the said Court at office on the 4th Monday in April, A. 
D., 1838.
