JOHN ALEXANDER COOK

   John Alexander Cook, 87 retired lumberman, died at the residence on Second 
Avenue, Franklin, early Saturday night, July 30, after several years of 
declining health.

   Mr. Cook was the husband of Mrs. Kate Wood Cook, who survives him, and the 
son of the late Calvin and Ann Icard Caldwell Cook of North Carolina. He was a 
member of High Street Methodist Church and of the R.M. Chandler Bible class. He 
was also a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple, Charlotte, N.C.

   Besides his wife he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. C.H. McClelland of 
Macon, Ga., Mrs. Carolyn Cleveland of La Grange, Ga., Mrs. Nell C. Ingram of 
Arlington, Mrs. Betty C. Brams of Palmyra, N.Y., and Mrs. Clara C. Bartlett of 
Brunswick, Ga.; one son, J.F. Cook of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; and a 
daughter-in-law, Mrs. C.F. Cook of Franklin.

   Funeral services were held in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Monday 
morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. James W. Turner, pastor of High Street Methodist 
Church. Services were also held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in the Warlick 
Funeral Home, Lincolnton, N.C., followed by interment in the White Zion 
Methodist Church cemetery.

   Pallbearers were John Cline, Roddy Cline, Dr. Forrest Hicks, Theodore 
Lingerfelt, Aza Mull and Cregg Wood.
