John JARMAN of Duplin Co. to James RHODES of Jones Co., NC

This Indenture made this Twenty fifth day of February One Thousand Eight 
Hundred and Seventeen between John JARMAN, Jr. of the County of Duplin and 
State of North Carolina of the one part and James RHODES of the county of 
Jones and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that for and in 
Consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and Twenty Seven Dollars in hand paid 
by the said James RHODES at or before the unsealing and delivery of these 
presents the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledged and for the same the said 
John JARMAN hath bargained sold conveyed and confirmed unto a certain piece or 
parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County on the South side of 
Trent River and North Side of Tuckahoe and West side of Great Branch. 
Beginning at a Tall bay, Lewis KINSEYS corner at run of said Great Branch and 
runs S? 68 W 134 poles to a pine the fifth corner of a survey of one hundred 
and fifty acres granted to John JARMAN, Senr. then S 23 W 50poles to a black 
gum in the south prong the mouth of the Hog Branch then up the various courses 
of said branch 92 poles to a cluster of marked saplings then N 1 E 42 poles to 
a stake and two black jacks the last corner of said one hundred and fifty 
acres survey then with the given line of said survey as N 41 W 160 poles to a 
pine then in Beginning corner thence N 36 E 100 poles to the second corn then 
N 25 E 51 poles to a stake and marked pine corner of a survey granted to Elam 
RATCLIFF then with the reverse course of that line N 40 W 60 poles to a stake 
and large maple at the run of Great branch then down the various courses of 
the same beginning containing by Estimation Four hundred and fifty four acres 
be the same more or less being a part of several surveys or may be made more 
fully to appear from the records of deeds and patent rites of John JARMAN, 
Senr. Dec'd. All and singular the above mentioned described bargained sold 
Land to the said James RHODES. To have and to hold unto him and his heirs and 
assigns forever and the said John JARMAN Jr. doth further covenant and agree 
to and with the said James RHODES his heirs and assigns that he for himself 
his heirs executors and administrators will from time to time and at all times 
hereafter Warrant and forever defend all and every part and parcel of the 
before mentioned lands and Tenements with all and every of the appurtenances 
In anywise appertaining thereunto free and clear from all rights claims or 
claims by any person or persons only Excepted? the taxes that may here after 
become .
In Witness whereof the said John JARMAN, Jr. hath hereunto set his hand and 
seal this day and date first before written.
