From the Racine Advocate September 12, 1866 (originally from the
previous issue of "The Standard" Burlington, Racine county)

Surnames: NORTHROP, DYER, DARLING, BENSON

A SAD ACCIDENT....

Mr. Smith Northrop, an old resident of this place while attempting to
get upon a loaded wagon was thrown down and the wheels passed over his
body lengthwise, injuring him very severely--it is thought fatally.
Drs. Dyer and Darling attended him. He is over 60 years of age, a
single man and has been in the employ of Mr. E.C. Benson for some time.

Mr. Northrop died between six and seven Tuesday evening: he had his
senses quite to the last conversing freely with the family and
neighbors who called in to see him. He was buried on Wednesday last.
