Union Grove Enterprise - August 1919 - Union Grove,
Racine Co., WI

GIDDINGS
Mrs Huldah Emeline Giddings, one of Union Grove's
oldest and most respected ladies, passed away at her
home on South Main Street at 3 o'clock on Tuesday
afternoon July 29, 1919, aged 80 years, 3 months and
10 days, following an illness of 3 months.

Mrs Giddings was born in Cabot, Vt., April 19, 1839
being one of a family of six children, (4 boys and 2
girls) of Edward and Hannah Coburn.

She came to Wisconsin with her parents at the age of
16 years, locating near Bristol, Kenosha County. In
September, 1859 she was united in marriage with Mr
Alfred Giddings of Bristol. They came to Union Grove
to make their home in 1880, Mr Giddings engaging in
the meat business for a number of years.

To this union were born three daughters: Alice, Mary
and Hattie. Mary passed away at the age of 9 months.
Hattie at the age of 9 years; Alice still survives.
Mr Giddings died March 31, 1906. Other surviving
relatives are 1 brother J.H. Coburn of Laurel, Neb.
and a number of nieces and nephews.

"Aunt Hud" as she was affectionately called by her
large circle of intimate friends, was a woman of many
qualities. Among us she ranked always as a woman of
refinement, sympathetic, a kind neighbor, a devoted
mother and faithful friend. As long as strength and
health would permit during her long residence here,
she took an active and abiding interest in the civil
and social affairs of the community, she was a long
standing member of the Congregational Church of this
place and faithful to all its teachings. She will be
greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held from the home on Friday
afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. H.P. Freeling
of the local church. Interment will be made at the
Paris and Bristol Cemetery.
