Racine Journal (Racine, WI) Fri, 21 Sept 1906 ·Page 3

             OLD SETTLERS CALLED HOME
Henry Henken, Aged Eighty, Succumbs to Debility
           Incident to Advanced Age
                   Henken
Henry Henken, one of the oldest residents of
Racine, died this morning at the home of his
son, Jacob Henken, 1223 North Wisconsin street,
of old age and general debility, aged eighty years.
Mr. Henken was born in 1826 in Popenburg,
Hanover, coming to America and Racine in 1844,
where he has resided ever since. He was a brick
mason, and did his part in erecting most of the
older business blocks of the city.
When the Mexican war broke out he enlisted
and served bravely in Co. F. Fifteenth regiment.
He was honorably discharged and lived in Racine
again until the civil war broke out, in which
he served as a hospital steward.
In 187 Mr. Henken was married in Milwaukee.
His first wife having died, he married again in
1894. Mr. Henken was one of Racine's most
prominent German residents. He had lived most
of his life in this city, and was respected and
liked by all who knew him, and their number was
legion. He is survived by his second wife, and
five children of his first marriage: Catherine
Buckendal, Detroit; Henry Henken, Cleveland;
Mrs. Annie Bittinger, Mrs. Agnes Rastall and
Jacob Henken, Racine. The time of the funeral
will be announced later.
