Headquarters Florida Division
United Confederate Veterans
Tallahassee, Fla., Nov 15th, 1905
General Order, No. 55.
   I. The Major General commanding the Florida Division, United Confederate
Veterans, takes great pleasure in announcing the fifteenth annual encampment
of the Division at Jacksonville, Fla., on Wednesday and Thursday, December
13th and 14th, 1905. In discharging this pleasant duty he desires to extend
to the camps of the sons of confederate veterans, and Chapters of the
Daughters of United confederate veterans, and to all veterans of the
confederacy, in all areas of service, their sons and their daughters to be
present on that occasion. Under the "Dallas" resolution and subsequent
resolutions of the U.C.V.'s the sons will be assigned seats with the veterans
at all business meetings, and will be allowed all the privileges of the floor,
except that of voting. The well known hospitality of R. E. Lee Camp No. 58,
and of the citizens of the progressive city of Jacksonville, mades it
superfluous for the Major-General to add one word to the invitation that has
been extended by Jacksonville to the veterans. Its hospitality is as
limitless as the energy of its citizens, and that energy speaks for them in
their magnificent rebuilded city.
II:-The camps of the Division are entitled to one delegate for every twenty
members or fraction of twenty, in good standing:-provided that every Camp in
good standing shall be entitled too two delegates.
III:-Adjutants of camps who have not already done so, must report at once
the rolls of their camps, giving names of members, letter of company and
regiment in C.S.A., together with the post office of each member; with the
rolls must be forwarded, to the Adjutant-General, at Tallahassee, Fla, Post
Office, Box 96, the per capita for each member.
IV:-Camps will at once proceed to select delegates to the annual encampment
and as soon as selected, adjutants will report the names of delegates and
alternates to the Adjutant-General. In the event of failure on the part of
camps to select delegates, the commanders of camps are authorized to appoint
delegates and alternates.
V:-Miss Genevive Reed Coulson, of Pensacola is announced as Sponsor and
Miss Laura Brashears, of Milton, Fla., as Maid of honor for the Division. The
granddaughter and daughter of as gallant soldiers as ever wore the gray, they
will be accorded every honor and attention by the veterans whom they represent.
VI:-As soon as the arrangements now pending, with the transportation lines
can be completed, Ge. C. P. Lowell, Chairman of the Transportation committee
will announce the rates that are agreed upon.
VII:-All the members of the Division staff will attend in uniform, where it
is possible to do so. Brigade commanders will require their staff officers to
appear in uniform at the encampment. It is urged upon the staff to use all
means possible to secure a full attendance of delegates, alternates, veterans,
sons of veterans and daughters of the confederacy, that the Fifteenth
encampment may be the grandest and most enjoyable in the history of the
division.
VIII:-The Press of the state is earnestly requested to aid the Veterans by
publishing the above order and making editorial note of the date and place of
the encampment and the rates of fare. The Major-general takes this occasion
to thank the news-paper men for their invaluable assistance and unvarying
courtesy in the past, and to assure them that their kindness is fully
appreciated by the men who wore the gray.
By order of Major-general W. D. Ballentine, commanding Florida Division
United Confederate Veterans
Fred L. Robertson
Adjutant-General and Chief of Staff
