Claim of Widow for Service Pension.
State of Louisiana, County of Vernon.

On this the 4th day of March 1887, personally appeared before me William H. Smart, Clerk 
Court, the same being a court of record within and for the county and State aforesaid, (1) 
Mrs. Lydia Franklin aged 80 years, a resident of Vernon Parish in the State of Louisiana 
being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of (2) Edward Lemuel 
Howard deceased, who was the identical (3) (4)Edward Lemuel Howard who served under the 
name Edward Lemuel Howard as a (5)powder monkey in the company commanded by "I do not 
remember name of Capt, but there was an officer on board by the name of (James) Tilton who 
was wounded same engagement of this day." Regiment of____Commanded by _______in the war of 
1812, that her said husband (6)enlisted in the regular Navy on or about _____day of 
_____A.D.____for the term of _____and continued in actual service in the said war (7)until 
about 1813 and whose services terminated, by reason of (8)wounds received on board a man 
of war in 1812 and dischared at Norfork, Va. on the ____day of A.D. 1813. She further 
states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his 
enlistment, viz:(9)Five feet, 6 inches high, Dark eyes and complexion and dark hair. She 
further states that she was married to the said Edward Lemuel Howard, at the city of (or 
town) of _____in the county of Leon and in the state of Florida on the 19 day of February 
1827 by one (10) Revt. Smith, who was a (11) Minister of Gospel.; and that her name before 
her said marriage was Lydia Stafford; and she further states that (12) neither her or her 
husband was previously married and that her husband Edward Lemuel Howard drowned on 
Oscilla river, in State of Florida on the 8th day of June A.D. 1832 and that she has again 
married:"one Easom Davenport Franklin who was a soldier in War of 1812 and 1836 who died 
in 1841" and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of 
herself and said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, (14) near 
Tallahassee, Florida, Suvana Island, where he was around since I left, there I have lived 
in Vernon Parish, La. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension 
to which she may be entitled under Sections 4736 to 4740, (inclusive) Revised Statutes, 
and the Act of March 9th 1878, and hereby appoints Cavil Bray of Anacoco P.O., Vernon P. 
La.her true and lawful attorney, to prosecute her claim; and she further declares that she 
has heretofore made one application for (15) Pension but never heard anything from since 
don't know under "what act" and her residence in No.____Street, city (or town) of Anococo 
P.O. county of Vernon, State of Louisiana, and her Post-office address is Anacoco Vernon 
Parish, La.

Also personally appeared Marion P. Franklin, aged 32 years, residing at No. Anococo P.O. 
in Vernon Parish, La. and Nathan H. Bray aged 20 years residing at No. Anacoco P.O. street 
in Vernon Parish La., persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and 
who, being by me duly sworn, say that they have known the said Lydia Franklin for 28 and 
for 8 years, respctively; that they were present and saw her sign her name(or make her 
mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the 
appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical 
person she represents herself to be; and they further say that they believe her to be the 
person who was the wife of the identical (16) Edward Lemuel Howard who rendered the 
service alleged in the above application (in the companh of Captain _____ in the regiment 
of "as Powder Monkey" in the war of 1812 in the Navy by the following named facts and 
circumstances, Vix: (17) Having heard her speak of the facts and also by having old people 
who were acquainted with the facts, speak the same. and that they have no interest in the 
prosecution of this claim.

that the contents of the above declaration &c. were fully made known and explained to the 
applicant and witnesses before swearing, including the words_______, erased and the words 
one Esom Davenport Franklin who was a soldier in the WAr of 1812 and 1836 and who died in 
1841, added; and that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this 
claim
