small abstract from article.
             Indian War
To the south and east of us the Indians are
committing horrible outrages. Up to the Suwannee
river, except one or two small fortifications,
they have absolute control. Below that river,
Col. Richard C. Parish, with about 200 volunteers
from middle Florida, is gallantly fighting every
inch of ground. On the Suwannee, we have three or
four companies stationed, who have had some
fighting, and have so far maintained their ground,
with some loss of life. On the 26th inst. they
will be reinforced by about 500 men from middle
Florida.

Colonel Richard Parish, who gallantly distinguished
himself in the commencement of the Florida war, and
afterwards temporarily retired from thence in consequence
of the fatal recontre between him and Liet. Ward, has
we are happy to learn, received the appointment of
Brigadier General of the Florida Militia, from the
President and already reached Augusta (Geo.) May 24th,
on his way to Tallahassee. Gen Clinch, it is understood,
will hereafter direct the Florida War.
