WILL OF SARAH HARDEE (1798)

In the name of God, Amen:

     I, Sarah Hardee of Lenoir County and State of North Carolina, being
sick and weak, but of sound disposing mind and memory, do make and declare
this to be my last will and testament in the following manner. Recommending
my soul to Almighty God who gave it, not doubting to awake unto Glory, and
as touching what worldly Estate that it has pleased God to bestow me with,
I dispose of in the following manner: First:  My will and desire is that
all my just debts be paid together with my Funeral expenses at the
discretion of my Executors. Item:  I give and bequeath to my Daughter Oliff
one Bed and furniture that she claims, to her and her heirs forever.  The
residue and remainder of my estate to be sold by Executors and the money
arising from such sale to be divided in the following manner Item:  I give
and bequeath to my son Major Hardee five shillings to him and his heirs
forever Item:  I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Hardee five shillings
to him and his heirs forever Item:  I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary
Kennedy five shillings to her and her heirs forever. Item:  I give and
bequeath to my son Isaac Hardee five shillings to him and his heirs
forever. Item:  I give and bequeath to my son William Hardee five shillings
to him and his heirs forever. Item:  I give and bequeath all the money that
remains after the above legacies is paid to my Daughters Oliff Hardee,
Elizabeth Hardee, Susannah Hardee, and Catherine Hardee to be equally
divided, share and share alike, to them and their heirs forever. Lastly, I
nominate and appoint my loving brother Major Croom and my trusty friend
Moses Westbrook Executors of this my last Will and Testament making void
all other wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this to be
my Last Will and Testament,  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and Seal this 26th day of July 1798.

        Then was the foregoing Last Will and Testament of Sarah Hardee
proved in
due form by the oath of Simon Westbrook, one of the subscribing witnesses
thereto, and at the same time Major Croom esquire one of the Exrs. therein
named appeared and qualified as such. Therefore ordered letters issued
accordingly
