NOTE: Lovit Hines collected as many originals or copies of original
documents located in private hands as he knew about and had the NC Archives
place said documents on microfilm.  Some of these original documents are
still in the possession of private individuals and some have been placed at
the NC Archives or other institutions in Collections.  


WILL OF NATHAN G. BLOUNT

4 April 1849 -  I NATHAN G. BLOUNT of Lenoir Co --- sound mind --- my last
Will

1st - just debts and funeral expenses to be paid

2nd - wife ELIZABETH BLOUNT my carriage & horses, household & kitchen
furniture, all farming stock, crop which now being planted, all farming
implements & utensils

3rd - negro man Allen & Samuel shall continue to labor for benefit of my
estate for 3 years or pay sum of $750 each to my executor.  After that time
they to select their masters & my executors shall sell them to selected
persons at a nominal price or liberate them if possible under the law; they
to be kindly treated for remainder of their lives:

4th - Negro woman Harriett to be sold in neighborhood of Washington where
she was raised; she and her child Sophy to be sold for such price as
proper.  Executor to hire Harriett out for 6 or 12 months to such persons
as she selects or she may remain with her mistress as she pleases.

5th - Executor to settle suit now pending between myself and JOSHUA HERRING
in proper terms or to prosecute to a final hearing & if lands I contracted
to sell to JOSHUA HERRING be retained then the land to be sold

6th - whatever lands to be sold the proceeds to go to wife up to $4000

7th - residue of property to my friend JOHN C. WASHINGTON to pay out as
follows from rents - niece, MARY E. LOPPING (NOTE: this could be Sopping -
mmm) $120 per annum during life of my wife
  Upon death of wife, residue of property to be sold including slaves;
slaves to be sold in families & they permitted to select their masters.
  On death of wife all property except crop, furniture, stock, farming
implements given to wife. 1/2 of the proceeds to be disposed of by wife by
WILL and rest to be placed I hands of REDDING LOUIS MYERS of Washington,
Beaufort County in trust for following purposes viz amount to be put in
interest bond and interest paid annually to my niece MARY E. LOPPING during
her life of if she dies to her children.  If she should marry again and
have children, they are to share.  When children of age they may share the
principal.

I appoint JOHN C. WASHINGTON as executor
