Obituary

Boardman. At Newbury, Vermont, Sunday, May 12, 1878, Mrs. W. C. Boardman,
wife of W. C. Boardman, of this city, died of a cancer, aged 68 years, 7
months.

The deceased had been a great sufferer for the past three or four years from a
cancer that was gradually eating her life out. During the past winter it had
troubled her more than before, and about two months ago she started east to
secure, if possible, medical treatment, in the hope of effecting an ultimate
cure. But all efforts to stay the advance of the dreaded disease proved
unavailing, and death put an end to her suffering. Two weeks ago Mr. Boardman
was called east by a telegram that his wife was failing rapidly, and he
started for the east at once, reaching her bedside but a few days before her
death. The remains were brought back here for interment, reaching here
Wednesday evening. The funeral was held at the house Thursday morning, but on
account of the rain, few outside of the more intimate acquaintances and
friends were present. As none of the relatives of the family life near here,
none were in attendance. The deceased has been a resident of our city for the
past twenty-two years, with the exception of two years spent in the east, and
had many friends and acquaintances. Of late years her health has been such as
to confine her to the house, but previously she was an active and prominent
worker in the Congregational Sunday school and church, of which she was a
member, and for all benevolent objects. For forty-seven years this aged couple
have shared together whatever sorrows and pleasures there have been in their
married life. In this time of his great bereavement, Mr. Boardman has the
sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.
