James M. Langston to B. C. Langston, Sr., 1966
with selections from the Absalom Langston Bible
The following is a copy of a letter written August 15, 1966, from James
Marvin Langston, Jr., to B. Cameron Langston, Sr. It contains selected
entries from the Absalom Langston Bible, and family information provided
by the writer. The present location of the Absalom Langston bible is
unknown.
"Dear Cameron,
Here is the information from the family bible which I copied of
Absalom & Dolly Langston's children. I have these birth dates which may
help you.
Simeon - born Aug. 19, 1769
Jepe (Jese)- born Sept. 15, 1775
Rachel - July (17 or 27) 1777
Sarah - Aug. 10, 1779
Milla - Nov. 26, 1787
Timothy - Nov. 25, 1789
Zilpha - Nov. 26, 1790
Elizabeth - Dec. 20, 1792
Jacob - June 15, 1795 -died Mar. 20, 1885
The letter goes on to say:
"Jacob's son, S. James Langston, my grandfather, born Lenoir County.
Born 11-04-1831- died March 15, 1916. His grandparents were originally
from Virginia and said to be related to the Jacksons of Clarksburg,
Virginia."
"Jacob, farmer, married Mary Connerly (1805-1882). They had 7 children,
S. James, Bryant Harry, Ann, Manda, and 2 more girls."
The letter concludes with:
"I hope this will help you in some way. Thank you for the information
you gave us and we would appreciate a copy of the additional information
you have when you get copies made. We enjoyed seeing all of you. Best
regards to the family.
