Will of Isaac Adams, 1806 - Patrick County, Virginia

Patrick County, Virginia 02 OCT 1806

In the name of God amen, Oct the second in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & six. 
I Isaac Adams of Patrick County State of Virginia being weak in body, but of perfect in mind & 
memory thanks to the Almighty God for the same, wherefore calling to mind the mortality of my 
body & the certainty of Death, do make & ordain this my last will & testament, that is to say 
principally & first of all I give & recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it
first, And my body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian Like manner, at the discretion of my
relations & friends nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection to receive the same again 
by the mighty Power of Almighty God, And as touching such wordly Estate as it hath pleased God 
to bestow on me in this Life I give desire & dispose of the same in the following manner & for 
me, I in the first place I desire all my just debts to be paid, Item I give to my wife Hannah 
Adams my bay mair Wilks & a feather bead & furniture also for her to continue on my plantation 
to be maintained her life time if she see cause, Item I give my sons Joseph, Thomas & Elisha 
Adams all my lands, to them & their heirs for ever, to be equally divided between them also my 
Negro boy Nathan I give to my (these) above mentioned sons, Item I give unto my daughter Seathey
Adams my negro woman Patt & her child Virgin also one feather bead & furniture to her & heirs 
for ever Item I give to my daughter Polly Adams my negro woman Wincey to her & her heirs, Item 
I give unto my son William Adams one bay mare two years old last spring the remainder of my 
Estate to remain on my plantation for the support of my children which shall remain on the same 
until they shall receive their above legacies, Item if there sh'd be any increase in my stock of
horses I give to my daughter Seathey the first of the increase also if there sh'd be any 
increase from my negroes Patt & Wincey it sh'd be equal divided  between my children except my 
son William Adams which is to have nothing more of my Estate than above mentioned.  I do appoint
my Brother William Adams Sr. & Brett Stovall Executors to this my last Will & Testament.  In 
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal the day & year above written.

This will was Exhibited in open court by the executors therein named proved by the witnesses 
thereto subscribed to be the act & deed of the within named Isaac Adams & ordered to be recorded
