Know all men by these presents that we Robert Sharp and Stephen Lyon of Patrick County are held 
and firmly bound unto his Excellency Robt Brook Esqr. Governor of this commonwealth & his 
Successors in the sum of fity pounds Current Money of Virginia and to which paymt. well and 
Truly to be made to the said Governor & his Successors for the time being, we bind ourselves 
our heirs Exors Jointly and Severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated 
this 17th day of Augt. 1796.

The Condition of the above Obligation is such that whereas there is a Marriage shortly intended 
to be had and Solemnized between the above bound Robert Sharp and Peney Shelton both of the 
said County of Patrick if therefore there is no Lawfull cause to obstruct the said marriage 
then the above obligation to be Void else to remain in full force & Virtue.
