Know all men by these presents that we John Sharp and John Medley Jr. are held and firmly bound 
unto Robert Brook Govrnor of the Commonwealth of Virginia & to his Successors in the Just & 
full sum of fifty pounds Current Money of Virginia and to wch. paymt. well and Truly to be made 
unto the said Robert Brook & his Successors, We bind our selves our heirs & Jointly and 
Severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 7th day of Decr. 96.

     The Condition of the above Obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage Shortly 
intended to be had and Solemnized between the above bound John John [sic] & Susanah Medley if 
therefore there is no Lawfull Cause to Obstruct the said Marriage then the above Obligation to 
be Void Else to remain in full force Power and Virtue

These are to Licence and permit you to Join together in the Holey State of Wedlock according to
the Rights & Cerimonies of your Church John Sharp & Susanah Medley, and for so doing this Shall
be your Sufficient Warrant  Given under my hand this 7th day of December 1796

of Patrick County

I do hereby Certify that John Sharp has performed every requisite required by Law for Obtaining 
a Licence to intermary with Susanah Medley, Given under my hand this 7th day of Decr. 1796.
