Know all men by these presents that we Elam Newman and Frederick Shelton are 
held & firmly bound unto John Page Governor of this Commonwealth & his 
successors for the time being in the Just sum of $250 dollars Current Money 
of Virginia and to Wch. payment will and truly to be made We Bind ourselves 
our Heirs Exors etc Jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed 
with our seals and dated this 16th day of Feb. 1804.

     The Condition of the above Obligation is such that whereas there is a 
marriage shortly intended to be had & Solemnized between the above bound 
Elam Newman & Elizabeth Shelton if therefore there is no lawful cause to 
Obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be Void Else to 
remain in full force & Virtue.

Patrick County, to wit,
        I do hereby Certify That Elum Newman has Performed every requisites 
required by law for Obtaining a license to Intermarry with Elisabeth 
Shelton.  These are therefore to Authorize license and permit you to Join 
together in the Holey State of Wedlock according to the rights and 
ceremonies of your Church the said Elum Newman, and Elisabeth Shelton.  And 
for so doing this shall be your sufficient warrant.

                       Given from under my hand at Office this 16th day of 
February 1804 in the XXVIII year of the Commonwealth.
