Harrold/East Marriage Bond, 1809 - Patrick Co. VA

Marriage Bond of Jonathan Harrold and Frances East
           1809, Patrick County, Virginia

Know all men by these presents that we Jonathan Harrel and William [Ruglsey?]
are held and firmly bound unto his excellency ___________Governor Chief
Magistrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of one hundred and
fifty dollars to which payment well and truly to be made to our said Governor
or his successor for the use of the said commonwealth we bind ourselves, our
heirs, our executors, and administrators pointedly and severally firmly by
these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 19th day of October 1809.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a
marriage shortly intended to be had and solemnized between Jonathan Harrel
and Frances East if therefore there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said
marriage then this above obligation to be void or else to remain in full
force and virtue.

                             Jonathan Harrold [Seal]
                             William [Ruglsey] [Seal]

Note: Though his name is spelled "Harrel" in the document, the groom is
identified as Jonathan Harrold, son of William Harrold and Frances Sturnam,
grandson of Jonathan Harrold and Catherine Hiatt, and great grandson of
Richard Harrold and Mary Beals. In the signature the surname seems to be
spelled correctly.

Note: The name of the Bondsman is very difficult to decipher.
