Marriage Bond of Jesse Harrold and Mary East
1810, Patrick County, Virginia

Know all men by these presents that we Jesse Harrel and Thomas Dunn are held
and firmly bound unto his excellency Governor Chief Magistrate of the
Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which
payment well and truly to be made to our said Governor or his successors for
the use of the said commonwealth we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and
administrators pointedly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with
our seals and dated this 13th day of November 1810.
The conditions of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a
marriage shortly intended to be had and solemnized between Jesse Harrel and
Mary East if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then this
above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue.

Note:
Though the name is spelled "Harrel" in this document, the groom is Jesse
Harrold, son of William Harrold and Frances Sturnam, and grandson of Jonathan
Harrold and Catherine Hiatt, and great grandson of Richard Harrold and Mary
Beals.
