             LENOIR COUNTY OVERSEERS REPORTS
                      1826 - 1862

July 1826

Malachi Fields - appointed Overseer of the road in the

     place of Thomas Walters and the usual hands work the

     same under him.

Lewis C. Desmond - appointed Overseer of the road in the

     place of Isaac Hardee and the usual hands work the 

     same under him.

Major C. R. Loftin - appointed Overseer of the road in 

     place of Frederick B. Loftin and the usual hands 

     work the same under him.

Daniel Miller - appointed Overseer of the road in the place

     of Durant H. White and the usual work the same under

     him.

Reubin Clark - of the New road heading from Kinston Road

     across to Snow Hill road. Beginning at the lower end

     of the lane between Joseph Tilghman and Reubin Clarke

     and running into Snow Hill road at Richard Jones' with

     the old road as it now runs or near the same; and the

     hands of Reubin Clarke, John Moore, Eli Moore, Timothy

     Langston, Wilson Tilghman, James Engram and William

     Faulkners work the same under him.

David Evans - of the raod from the mouth of Stonington 

     creek to the main road and up said road to that road

     leading to Daugherty's Bridge and from Daugherty's

     bridge to the road leading to Kinston and the hands

     comprized in said bounds work the same under him.

October 1826

Joseph Tilghman - of the road in the room and placce of 

    Abner Witherington and the usual hands work the same

    under him.  Executed by delivering a copy of the within

    in Oct. Sherriff Jos. Loftin by F. B. Loftin.

Robert Wiggins - in the room & place of Daniel S. Wood and

    the usual hands work on said road under him.

Greene Taylor - of the road in place of Shepard Jones and

    the usual hands work theron under him. Exe. as above

John Smith - in room and palce of Malachi Fields and the

    usual hands work thereon under him. Exe.as above

Council Phillips - in the place of John Perdew and the 

    usual hands work thereon under him.

Richard Nobles - in the place of Isaac Taylor (Trent) and

Imla N. Miller - place of William Brown leading from Duplin

    County line opposite William Brown's down to the fork

     the Public Roads as will moore fully appear by rifferance

     to minutes of Coarte (Viz) Abner Tilghman, Shetton Gray,

Charles Fuller, James Jones, James M. Spence, Aaron Wiggins      

     and Major Hardee.

     Southwest bridge to the centre of the bridge at

     son branch and work the usual hands.

Job Leary - extending from Evan Ervins to David Kings and

Nathan Hill - extending from deep creek to the head of

Wiley Rouse - from Wayne County line to Widdows Smiths gate

     that the order directed to Thos. Rouse on a parte

     far as Cobb branch & also up the road for Waynsboro

     to the divishion line between him & Henry F. Bond at

     a large ditch that he work his own hands.

Henry F. Bond - from the divishion line between him and J.C

     Washington on the road leading to Goldsboro to as far

     as his own lands & work his own hands

Lewis C. Desmond - from where his corner line cross the 

     Raleigh road up the same to his upper line & work

     Barney Wadsworth by Thomas Dawson & Mrs. Herrings 

     mills to where the public road crosses the Falling

     Creek work his hands Henry Skinner, Dred Mitchell,

     Richard Benton, Martin Potter, James Canon & Jesse

     Canon.

Needham Warters - from the mouth of Thos. Warters lane to

     the Stage road near the Squaling pond and work the 

     usual hands.

John Jackson - from the road below Doctor Chancy Grahams to

     the Southwest Bridge and work the usual hands.

Walter Kennedy - from Neuse road to Gum swamp and work the 

     usual hands.

John Warters - from Whitely creek down the road to when it

     goes in the old road near Suttons fields and work the 

     usual hands.

Imlly N. Miller - from Will Browns to forks of the road 

     near James Jones and work the usual hands.

David Jones - from where Warters new road inters the old

     down to the fork below John Tilghmans and work the

     usual hands.

Lewis L. Loftin - from the crossroads near Mrs. Cobbs to 

     the fork of the road at the Jesse West plantation 

     and work the usual hands.

Thomas Dawson Sr. - extending the Kinston & Waynsboro road

     near Barney Wadsworths and runs by Thomas Dawson and 

     Mrs. Herrings mills to where the Pubblick road crosses

     the Falling creek the above overseer will work the 

     following hands vs. his own, Henry Skinner, Dred

Wm. H. Warters is extending from the fork of the road at

     Alexander Wilson's fence to Falling Creek including 

     one half of the bridge and work the hands of Thomas W.

     Dawson, Lemon Dail, Mathew Smith, William Warters, 

     Freeman Smith, Stephen Dunk, Warren Taylor, and all 

     others that may live in said District of Road.

    above John K. Grady & work the following hands: Oliver

    Herring, Michael Tilghman, Wm. Devenport, John 

    Devenport, Hardy Davis, James Taylor, Zack Howard, John

    Gray, John K. Grady, his own & all others that may live 

    in said district of road.

Buckner Hines - from South West creek near Mrs. Nancy 

    Williams to ferry Branch and work all the hands living

    in said district of road.

C. H. Clark - from the aligator to the new road cut out by

    the late Lewis Whitfield to Stonington and work the 

    hands of Arden Wiggins, B. F. Wiggins, Louisa Wiggins,

    W. A. Pugh, Jo Abbott, P. N. Pittman, and all others

    that may live in said district of road.

Alex M. Dawson - from Falling Creek to the Bear pond and 

    work the hands of Betsy Fields, F. B. Fields, Wm. 

    Hughes, Benj. Hughes, P. M. Hardy, his own and all 

    others that may live in said district of road.

Joseph Williams - from the fork of the Hull road to the

    bridge or line between H. F. Bond & W. H. Hill, and

    work his own hands.

John Johnson - from the fork of William Fields plantation 

     to the Kinston road near the residence of the late B. 

     W. Canady deceased, and work the usual hands and all 

     others that may live in said district of road.

Wilson Tilghman - from the Snow Hill road to Stonington 

     bridge and from the fork of said road back to the road 

     leading to Whitfield old bridge and work all the hand

     living in said district of road.

J. T. Askew - from Wheat Swamp to Lousing Swamp Known as 

     the Kinston & Snow Hill road and work the hands of 

     S. W. Bright, R. F. Bright, his own and all others 

     that may live in said district of road.

Edward Deaver - from S. E. Whitfields to the Duplin county

     line and work the usual hands and all others that may

     live in said district of roads.

E. G. Wooten - from the cross roads at his house to 

     Campbell landing and work the usual hands and all 

     others that may live in said district of Road.

B. W. Pridgen - from Wheat Swamp Meeting House to the Green

     County line near the Lenoir Institute, and work the 

     hands of Bryan Mazingo, Thos. W. Dawson, James

     Brothers, W. B. Reed, J. B. Webb, Jm Patrick, Wm.

John Rhem - from the cross roads below Mrs. Ann B. Cobb to

     the fork at W. H. Wests and work the hands of J. B.

     Bryan, Wm. F. Loftin, Jo Humphrey, W. H. West, his own

     and all others that may live in said district of Road.

John K. Grady - from the top of the hill on the Southeast

     side of deep Run to the center of South West Creek and

     work the hands of Lemon Smith, Alex Carter, Rich Lee,

     Amos Lee, Amos Stroud, Lewis Lee, James Deaver, Rich

     Deaver, Olivir Carter, Simpson Harper, Thomas Davis,

     Calvin Deaver, John Cunningham, Drery Potter, and all

     others that may live in said district of road.

Wm. G. Taylor - from the center of Ferry Branch to South

     West Creek near Mrs. Nancy Williams and work all the

     hands that may live in said district of Road.
