These obituaries that have been passed down in my family--they are 
newspaper clippings from Kinston, Lenoir Co.

SPENCE Funeral Held on Friday at Funeral Home---Oct. 11, 1945-date of 
death

Last rites for Mrs. D.I. SPENCE 70, who died Thursday morning at her 
home on the Goldsboro Highway, were held at 4 p.m. Friday from Edwards 
Funeral Home. Rev. R.B.HURT, pastor of Gordon St.Church of Christ, 
officiated. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, 
two sons, Capt. Elmer L. SPENCE, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky, and Lt. 
Marvin SPENCE, with the Army in Korea; one sister, Mrs. Thurba WADE, of 
Kinston; and two grandsons. Pallbearers were J.T. WHITFIELD, J.C.HOOTEN, 
A.L. HOGAN, W.C. SPENCE, William BENTON and Wilbur ROUSE. Floral 
Tributes were numerous.

Kinston-Mrs. Ada Dupree SPENCE, 70, wife of D.I. SPENCE, farmer of near 
Kinston, died at her home Thursday morning following an extended 
illness. Surviving are two sons, Capt. E.L.SPENCE with the Army at Fort 
Knox, Ky, and Lt. Marvin SPENCE with American occupation forces in 
Korea; one sister, Mrs. Thurber WADE of Kinston; and two grandchildren. 
Mrs SPENCE was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.C.DUPREE. Funeral 
services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock from Edwards 
Funeral Home in Kinston by the Rev. R.B.HURT, pastor, of Gordon St. 
Church. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
