June 21, 1855
In Kinston on the 7th inst., Charles Edward, infant son of John T. and Eliza A. 
Walsh. Aged 8months and 1 day. 

Thursday, July 5, 1855
In Savannah Ga. On the 25th day of June, 1855, in the 49th year of his age, Mr. John 
F. Blakely, a native of Petersburg Va. And formerly a resident of this town.

At " Mt. Joy", Lenoir County, N.C. on the 30th inst. James Whitfield, son of Dr. 
H.W. and Winnie B. Blount, aged seventeen months and eight days.

In Kinston on Friday 29th ult. Lucretia Von Britton, infant daughter of Dr. C.J. and 
Elizabeth Foss aged 1 year 5 months, and 8 days.

In Kinston on Sunday evening 1st. Eliza Winnifred, infant daughter of Walter and 
Elizabeth Dunn aged 1 year, 3 months and 12 days.

Thursday, August 9, 1855
In this place on Friday, the 3rd instant, of Typhiod Fever, in the 27th year of his 
age, James B. Maples, formerly of New Hoven (CONN). He had for several months been 
assiduously in the carriage factory of Dibbles & Bros. In this place. He was a kind-
hearted, generous young man, respected and esteemed by all who enjoyed his 
acquaintance. A father and mother and numerous circle of friends mourn his loss.

Thursday, August 9, 1855
At St. Louis, (Missouri) on the 9th of July after a lingering illness, Mrs. Ann, 
wife of the Rt. Rev. Bishop Hawks, of Missouri, and formerly a resident of Newbern.

September, 14, 1855
In Newbern, on Monday the 16th instant, of Paralysis, Samuel Oliver, aged about 
70 years.

Friday, September 21, 1855
At his residence, in Pitt County, on Thursday morning the 18th instant, Mr. John 
Kilpatrick aged 50 years. He was a kind and affectionate father and husband, a good 
neighbor, an excellent citizen.

Friday, September 28, 1855
In this county, at the residence of her father, Shepard Jones, Miss Mary Jane Jones, 
in the 26th year of her age. 

Thursday October 4, 1855 
In Pitt County, on Thursday, 27th ult. Of Consumption, Mrs. Flenor Pugh, wife of 
William A. Pugh, she was about 37 years of age. Mrs. P. was a fond and affectionate 
mother, a devoted wife, a kind neighbor and a true Christian. Her irreparable loss 
is mourned by a bereaved husband, a child, and a numerous circle of friends.

Thursday, October 4, 1855
In Noxubee County, Miss. On the 12th of September, Mrs. E.C. Carr, wife of Allen Carr, 
aged 44 years, 8 months, and 12 days. Mrs. Carr was a native of Lenoir County, North 
Carolina, and came to this state in 1837. She was an affectionate wife, a fond mother 
and a kind hospitable neighbor. She was a member of the Baptist Church, and died 
reposing full confidence in the goodness and mercy of her God and Savior.She has left 
a kind husband, a large family and many friends to mourn her loss.

Thursday, October 11, 1855
In Salisbury, on the 26th of September, after an illness of a few days, Frederick, 
youngest son of Dr. John Swann, aged 4 years, 9 months. 

October 25, 1855
At his residence in this county on Tuesday evening, the 23rd inst. And a few minutes 
past six o'clock, Daniel Miller, after lingering for several weeks, under the influence 
of Typhoid Pneumonia. He was born on the 31st of October 1789. And was therefore nearly 
66 years of age. For several years he was an upright consistent member of the 
Methodist Episcopal Church of which he was an ornament. As a father he was kind and 
affectionate, as a friend faithful and true; peaceful and obliging as a neighbor, and 
lenient as a master; as a member of society, no one was most exemplar; and as a 
Christian he was sincere and devoted. In the walks of private life, he uniformly 
enjoyed the reputation of an honorable, quiet useful citizen and an honest man of 
eight children, four survive him; these with a numerous circle of relatives and friends 
mourn his irreparable loss. His death like his life was calm and quiet with scarcely 
a struggle yielding his spirit to God who gave it. To enjoy a place at the right hand 
of Jesus his redeemer.

At his residence in this county, on Sunday the 21st instant, Levi Mewbern Sr. in the 
61st year of his age.

October 25, 1855
At Oak Grove, the residence of her father, Rev. Bennett T. Blake, in this county, on 
the 12th inst., Mrs. Laura Ann, wife of W.C. Doub, Esq. Editor of the North Carolina 
Star, in the 27th year of her age. She leaves a devoted husband, a deeply afflicted 
father and three small children, beside a large circle of friends to mourn the loss of 
one who filled her place well in all the relations of life. From early girlhood Mrs. 
D has been a consistent Christian and we doubt not have gone to the Christian reward 
in Heaven. May he who tempers the wind shorn lambs, at ministered consolations to the 
deeply bereaved circle in this hour of heavily afflicted.

In this county on Saturday night, of congestive chill, James Taylor, son of Green 
Taylor, In the 20th year of his age.   

November 10, 1855
At Fort Clark, Texas, September 23rd, 1855, James G. Stanly, brother of the Hon. Edward 
Stanly, Of North Carolina. He received the kind attention of a friend of his family.
