DAWSON KILLED WHEN LEAPED FROM A TRAIN

Special to The Observer

KINSTON, Feb. 3 - The funeral of Herman Dawson, fatally injured when he jumped
from a moving Norfolk Southern passenger train in Southeastern Kinston
Wednesday night, was held yesterday afternoon. Dawson, 39 years of age, was
the son of Amos Dawson, of Lenoir county, and was extensively related in this
city and section. He was unmarried.

Authorities today said nothing had been learned to affect their belief that
Dawson was injured when he stepped or leaped from the train a short distance
from Bright street, where the train was due to stop for a crossing. Railroad
men said they could throw no light on the matter. Dawson was found lying
beside the track, his skull fractured and his head otherwise injured and his
left hand bruised.
