VARIOUS CROOMS before 1950

We thank the staff at LCC for their permission to copy selected documents
from their files to place on the internet. It is requested that researchers

These copies are found together on a page from the Hyatt Collection.
There is no indication of papers and in some cases dates, but all are
prior to 1950.

WILLIAM L. CROOM

Some of the original copy was cut off on one side - Notation written in
1944 - Kinston 

(NOTE: WILLIAM L. CROOM - In March 2001 a descendant sent the information
that this obit is incorrect. It states that Edwin Ray Croom was the son of
William L. (Leon) Croom. William L. had a son Edward Seymore Croom and it
was Edward's son that named Edwin Ray Croom. This correction needs to be
noted for future generations.)

Word has been received of the funeral last Thursday at Indianapolis,
Ind. of William L. Croom, 82, a native of Lenoir County.

Mr. Croom was a son of the late Christiana Rhem and Lott Croom of Sandy
Bottom and he left North Carolina to make his home in Indianapolis in
1892. He returned for only one visit and that was in December 1918.

Surviving are a daughter Lottie Croom; a son Edwin Ray Croom; one sister
Mrs. Lottie A. West of Kinston Route 3; three half-brothers, Matthew H.
Smith of Maysville, Charles H. Smith of Morgan City - next word missing
- and Adrian E. Smith of Dover, NC; one step - brother, Dunn Smith near
LaGrange

CHARLES E. CROOM

No notation of a date - Goldsboro - Funeral services for Charlie E.
Croom, 78, who died here Sunday night at his home on Oak Street, after
several years of declining health, will be conducted at the home at 3:30
Tuesday afternoon by the pastor of St. Mary's catholic Church. Interment
will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mr. Croom was a native of New Hanover County and moved to Goldsboro from
Wilmington many years ago. For years he conducted a tin shop in
Goldsboro.
He is survived by his wife.

MRS. MINNIE CROOM

No notation of a date - Wallace - Mrs. Minnie A. Croom, 80, died Tuesday
night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. Dempsey, in Wallace.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2: 0'clock at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. A. Dempsey, at Wallace. Interment will be in
the family cemetery near Atkinson.
She is survived by five children, Mrs. Dempsey, D. L. Croom of Atkinson,
E. W. Croom of Marion, Va., Mrs. J. S. Adams of Wilmington and O. B.
Malpass of High Point.

LEAH BRADLEY CROOM

Note of 22 Nov 1945 written in - MAGNOLIA WOMAN DIES: RITES AT 3 PM
SUNDAY

Magnolia, Nov. 24 - Funeral services for Mrs. Leah Bradley Croom, 92,
widow of John F. Croom of Magnolia and formerly of Lenoir County who
died at her home here Friday night after an extended illness will be
held from the late residence at 3 pm Sunday with Rev. J. B. Sessoms,
pastor of Magnolia Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in a local
cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Forest Croom of Wilmington and John H. Croom of
Magnolia; five daughters, Mrs. John T. Thorne of Farmville, Mrs. E. W.
Jenkins of Fair Bluff, Mrs. S. B. Hunter, Mrs. J. N. Horne and Miss
Louisa Croom all of Magnolia, three grandsons, Major S. B. Hunter, Jr,
Capt John F. O. Hunter and R. M. 3-c Norwood Hunter of the armed
services; three granddaughters, Mrs. J. O. Jones and Miss Norma Croom of
Wilmington and Miss Mary Leah Thorne of Farmville and two
great-grandchildren.

MAJOR LOTT CROOM

5 August 1943- KINSTON - The funeral of Major Lott Croom, 55, who died
at 11 Thursday morning at his home at Sandy Bottom, was held at the home
Friday with burial in a family cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Croom, eight sons and daughters,
Mrs. H. M. Cook of Charlotte and Allan, Joseph, Walter, J. D., Major
Lott Jr, Delia and Albert all of the home.

Mr. Croom was a member of a prominent family and a widely known farmer.
