MISS ELLA BLAND DIES; RITES AT 4 MONDAY AFTERNOON:  Miss Ella Bland, 93, 
retired matron of Parrott Memorial Hospital, died at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. 
Sunday, after an extended period of failing health.  The funeral will be from 
Edwards' Funeral Home here at 4 p.m. Monday, with interment in Maplewood 
Cemetery.  Rev. Rufus B. Hurt of Gordon Street Church of Christ will officiate.

Miss Bland was a daughter of the late Theophilus and Mary Smith Bland of Pitt 
County, but she spent most of her life in Kinston.  She was matron at Parrott 
Memorial Hospital for 25 years before her retirement some 17 years ago.  She 
had been in ill health for several years.  Her work as matron dated back 
through the influenza epidemic of the early 1920's.  Surviving are a brother 
R. E. Bland an a sister, Mrs. Ida Albritton, both of Kinston, and a large 
number of nieces and nephews.
