GILBERT, HERMAN, is a native of Germany, and was born May 26, 1833. During
his early youth he attended the public schools and worked on a farm. In 1846
he emigrated to this country and lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, ten years;
then opened a country store in Sheboygan county and remained there four years;
the next six years was engaged in the manufacture of flour and lumber. His next
business was that of a hotel keeper at Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin, where he remained
several vears. In 1873 he came to Sioux Falls and was in business there until
1888, when he removed to Seattle, Washington, where he now resides. He has
considerable property in this county at the present writing and has been spending
a few months this summer (1898) with his friends in Sioux Falls. He is an honest,
upright man.
