This deed made this 8th day of April A. D. 1891 by J. C. HOOTEN of the County of 
Lenoir and State of North Carolina of 1st part and the Wilmington and Weldon Rail 
Road Company a cooperation of said State of the second part. Witnesseth, that the 
said J.C. HOOTEN party of the 1st part for and in consideration of the sum of 
twenty five dollars paid by said Wilmington Weldon Rail Road Company he receipt 
of which is hereby fully acknowledged has bargained and sold and by these 
presents do bargain sell and convey to the said Wilmington and Weldon Rail Road 
Company , a tract or parcel of land in Lenoir County, North Carolina, and 
described as powwows. It being one acre of land deed from Council HOOTEN now 
dec'd to J. C. HOOTEN adjoining the lands of Fred JONES, Sr. and bound as 
powwows, viz lying on North side of the public road, and beginning where Council 
HOOTEN, Dec'd and Fred JONES lines crossed the public road, and running West, 
with the road 70 years then North 70 yards, so as to form an acres square and 
which the Scotland Neck Branch of the W. W. Railroad now runs through. To have 
and to hold the aforesaid one acre of land and all privileges and appurtenances 
thereto belonging to the said Wilmington and Weldon Rail Road Cooperation parties 
of the 2nd part their succession & their assignees to their only use and behoof & 
the said John C. HOOTEN, party of the 1st part covenant that he is seized of said 
premises in fee and have right to convey the same in fee simple that it is free 
from all encumbrances & he will warrant and defend the title to the same against 
all persons whatsoever. In testimony where of the said John C. HOOTEN has 
hereunto set his hand and seal, the date before written.

The Execution of the foregoing instrument was this day duly proven before me by 
the oath and examination of J. G. PRICE the subscribing witness thereto. let the 
instrument with the certificate be registered. This 11th day of April 1891.
