Deed of Gift - Drewry A. Hill to his Three Children, Dec. 3, 1863 

Know all men by these presents that 
I Drewry A Hill of the County of Lenoir & State of North Carolina, for & in 
consideration of the natural love & affection which I have & do bear towards 
my three children, Rachel Frances, James Franklin, & Mary Elizabeth Hill, & 
for diverse other good causes & considerations me thereunto? removing?, hath 
given, granted, aliened, cofeoffed?, conveyed & confirmed, & doth by these 
presents give, grant, alien, ?cufroff?, convey & confirm, unto the said Rachel 
Frances, James Franklin & Mary Elizabeth their heir or assigns, the following 
property to wit; the land and plantation upon which I now reside, containing 
about two hundred acres; the following named negroes, viz. Nandy, John, Arron, 
George Olif, Ary, and Patsy & their increase; one thousand five hundred 
dollars in Confederate States Bonds; and six hundred dollars in current money 
 To have & to hold to them the said, Rachel Frances, James Franklin, & Mary 
Elizabeth, in common stock, share & share alike, to them & each of them, their 
heirs or assigns, in fee simple absolutely forever & reserving however, to 
myself, for & during the term of my natural life, the use & benefit of the 
said property; & hereby declaring it to be my deliberate act & deed, that the 
whole of the said property & effects & every part & parcel thereof hereby 
intended to be conveyed over to them, & each of their sole & separate use & 
benefit immediately after my death  
In testimony whereof I the said Drewry A Hill, hath hereonto set my hand 
& seal this 3id day of December AD 1863

This was the due and legal execution of the foregoing deed acknowledged before 
me in due form of Law by Drewry A. Hill the ?barganior. Let said deed together 
with this certificate be registered.
