1866 Deed from W.R. Hill and others to John D. Hill
 
This indenture made this 11th day of August AD in the year of our Lord one 
Thousand Eight hundred and Sixty Six by and between W. R. Hill Drewry A Hill 
Hardy Hill Martha M. Sutton wife of Josiah Sutton Elizabeth Jones & Easter 
Hill parties of the first part and John D. Hill party of the Second part, all 
of the County of Lenoir and State of North Carolina Witnesseth that the Said 
William R. Hill D.A. Hill Hardy Hill Martha M. Sutton Josiah Sutton Elizabeth 
Jones and Easter Hill for and in consideration of the Sum of one hundred 
dollars to each of them in hand paid by the Said John D. Hill the receipt & 
payment whereof is hereby acknowledged bargained and Sold & doth by these 
presents bargain & sell to the Said John D Hill his heirs or assigns all the 
rights title interest claims or demand Which they may or can have either in 
law or Equity as tenants in common of the real estate of Mary Hill wife of 
Drewry Hill Sr: Which Said real estate was vested in her the Said Mary Hill by 
her father the late Ezekiel Creech and interested to her legal descendants. To 
have and to hold to him the Said John D. Hill his heirs or assigns in fee 
simple absolutely forever, and the Said William R. Hill D.A. Hill Hardy Hill 
Martha M Sutton Josiah Sutton Elizabeth Jones & Easter Hill doth hereby 
Concent and agree to & with the Said John D. Hill that they warrant & defend 
to him & his heirs or assigns all the right title interest Claim or demand 
which they now prossess or which right accrue to them or each of them in any 
future contingency that might arise to testimony whereof we whose names are 
above mentioned as parties of the first part doth 
all hereunto set our hands & Seals the day & date above written

Lenoir County Court, September Term, 1867 
Then was the foregoing deed exhibited in open Court and the execution thereof 
as to Wm. R. Hill, Drury A. Hill, Hardy Hill, Elizabeth Jones and Easther 
Hill, is proved by the oath of M.B.Creech, the subscribing witness thereto, 
and Josiah Sutton and Martha M. Sutton his wife appeared in open Court, and 
personally acknowledged the due execution by them of the said deed, and 
thereupon J.A. Hartsfleld, a member of the Court, is appointed to take the 
private examination of the said Martha M. Sutton, and the said J.A. Hartsfield 
after privately examined the said Martha M. Sutton separate and apart from her 
said husband touching her free consent in the execution of the said deed, 
reported to the Court that she acknowledged before him, when so examined, that 
she had executed said deed freely of her own will and accord and without any 
force, fear, or undue influence of her said husband or any other person and 
did still voluntarily assent thereto, all of which was ordered to be recorded. 
It was further ordered that the deed itself, and the above proceedings to be 
registered.
