Sale of Slaves, March 14, 1857- WR. Hill to D.A. Hill 

State of North Carolina 
Lenoir County 
Know all men by these presents that I W.R. Hill of the County of Lenoir and 
state afore said in consideration of the sum of twelve hundred and forty-five 
dollars to me in hand paid by DA Hill of the County of Lenoir and State of 
North Carolina the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged have granted 
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and convey unto 
the said D A Hill a certain negro woman and her two children Olley Patsy and 
John to have and to hold the above named slaves the said D A Hill his heirs 
assigns executors and administrators forever free and discharge of any and all 
incumbrance whatsoever. And for the better security of the title hereby 
conveyed I for myself my heirs, executors and administrators to and with the 
said D A Hill his heirs executors administrators and assigns to warrant and 
forever defend the same from the lawful claim of my and all persons whatever 
in testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal. 
this 14th day of March 1857
