Snoad B. CARAWAY to John P. DUNN of Lenoir County, NC
12 OCT 1853

This Indenture made this twentieth day of October, One thousand eight hundred 
fifty three, between Snoad B. CARRAWAY of the first part and John P. DUNN of the 
second part, both of the County of Lenoir & State of North Carolina. Witnesseth, 
that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of 
Four Thousand five hundred Dollars lawful money of the United State of America 
to him duly paid before the delivery hereof hat bargained and sold and by these 
presents doth bargain and sell and convey to the said party of the second part 
his heirs and assigns forever all the certain certain piece or parcel of land 
situate, lying and being in Contentnea Neck in the County of Lenoir and State 
aforesaid being apart of the BLACKLEDGE land and apart of the land granted yr. 
patent to Thomas BRANDON bounded and described as follows to wit: Beginning at a 
red oak stump on the East side of the Kinston rad at the foot of the long hill 
near Mrs. Reuben CLARK. Thomas Branton's corner, thence along said BRANDON'S 
patent line S 19 W 63 poles to a red oak stump another of T. BRANDON'S Corners, 
thence N 70 W 144 pole to a pine stump, then N 104 pole, then N 27 1/2 W 19 1/2 
pole then East 11 1/2 pole to the Snow Hill road at the mouth of the land near 
the LAFAYETTE house, thence Eastwardly along said lane (being also the public 
road) to the Kinston Road, thence South 25 1/2 W 20 pole, then South 61 W 5 pole 
along the Kinston road to a stake at a ditch and bridge across said road at 
Cowherd Branch, then South 25 East to Neuse River, thence up the various courses 
of said River to the mouth of Stonyton Creek, thence North through the River low 
ground to the edge of the high land, thence along the edge of the high land all 
its various courses to the mouth of a small branch the line of the heirs of 
Reubin CLARK, Dec'd, thence up the said branch N 36 3/4 W 6 poles then N 6 3/4 W 
8 poles, thence N, E 4 pole to a path that crosses the branch then N 27 1/2 W to 
the end of an old ditch, thence along said ditch 27 1/2 W 77 pole to the West 
end of said ditch, thence N 22 W to a red oak stump the beginning containing 
three hundred and twenty five acres more or less. Also another tract, beginning 
at the main road in Alligator Branch, thence up the various courses of the run 
of said branch to the fork, thence up the western branch of said Alligator to a 
black gum on the North side of said branch Lewis WHITFIELD, Dec'd corner, thence 
South 9 W 6 pole, then S 41 E 195 pole to the main road near a post oak marked 
as a pointer, thence along the road N 62 1/2 E to the beginning at Alligator 
Branch, containing one hundred & twenty five acres be the same more or less as 
per deed from Lewis WHITIFIELD to S. B. CARRAWAY, - July 7, 1841, together with 
all and singular the tenements hereditaments, and appurtenances and all the 
right, title and interest of the said party of the first part therein. And the 
said party of the first part doth covenant and agree with the said party of the 
second part, that at the time of the delivery hereof the said party of the first 
part is the lawful owner of the premises granted and seized thereof in fee 
simple absolute, and that he will warrant and defend the above granted premises 
in the quiet & peaceable possession of the party of the second part his heirs 
and assigns forever. 
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the date and year first 
above written.

Then was the foregoing deed of bargain and sale from S. B. CARAWAY to John P. 
DUNN exhibited before me and the execution thereof duly acknowledged by the 
grantor agreeable to an act of assembly in such cases made and proved. Let it 
therefore be registered in Lenoir County.
