J. D. Burton is Dead at Potwin

J. D. Burton, a resident of Butler County for the past 45 years, died at his 
home at Potwin yesterday morning. He was 76 years old.

Because of his long residence in Butler County he was widely known in this 
community and his death is mourned by scores. For 18 years, he edited the 
Potwin Ledger but sold the paper about two years ago and retired.

Mr. Burton was a former resident of El Dorado and Augusta, having worked on the 
old Advocate here early in the century. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows 
Lodge here. The Potwin man was born at Springfield, Ill., on July 1, 1857, and 
two years ago he and Mrs. Burton celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church at Potwin, tomorrow 
afternoon, at 2:30, with Rev. W. L. Martin and Rev. J. H. Higdon officiating. 
Interment will be made in the Potwin Cemetery. The Smith-Brothers Funeral Home, 
at Whitewater is in charge.

Surviving are his widow: a daughter, Mrs. W. F. Poe, of Potwin; a son, Alex K. 
Burton, of Wichita, a grandson Arch L. Burton; two great-grandsons, Jack C. and 
Jim B. Burton, both of Wichita, and a sister, Mrs. Ben Howe, of Nevada City, 
Calif.
