BETZ:  Died June 27, at his home in Fairview township, Jacob Betz aged about 75 
years. Mr. Betz has been for many years an honored and loved citizen of Butler 
county. He was a type of sturdy and unfalling bounty. He was a kind and loving 
husband and father, a real friend and kindly neighbor. Born in Bardon, Germany, 
in 1827, he came to America to New Orleans in 1845, later moving to Cincinnati 
where he was married and in 1872 he and his family came to Kansas, to El Dorado 
where he opened a hotel. He afterward secured a homestead in Fairview township 
and from the raw prairie his labors made a productive farm and comfortable 
home. His good wife and five children survive him and honor his name nad life, 
Mrs. T. J. Shepherd of Emporia, Mrs. R. S. Hallett of South Dakota, J. J. Betz 
of St. Louis, J. F. Betz, and Mrs. W. S. Tarman of Gridley, Illinois, all of 
whom except Mrs. Hallett will be present at the funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m. from 
the family home.
