The Dunlap Reporter
George W. Crawford, son of George and Maria Crawford, was born March 20, 1844,
in Hocking County, Ohio. He passed away April 28, 1923, at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. C.J. Wheelen, of this city.
When the Civil War broke out in 1861, he enlisted when only 17 years old. He
served for three years, taking part in 21 battles, among which were the Second
Battle of Bull Run, Chancellorville, and Gettysburg.
Coming home from the war, he was united in marriage to Margaretta Skinner in
1867 at Logan, Ohio. To this union, four children were born, three of whom
survive him: Mrs. Alma Wheelen, Edd of Dunlap, and Wilbur of Sharpsburg,
Iowa. His wife and one son, Frank Alonza, preceeded him to the Great Beyond.
