    MERCER BURNS

Funeral services for Mercer Burns, 85, of Route 4, Cochran, who died Monday 
morning in the Bleckley Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness were held 
Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in the New Richland Baptist Church in Twiggs 
County. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Burns, a life resident of Twiggs County, was a retired merchant. He was a 
veteran of World War I; a member of the Jeffersonville Masonic Lodge #133, 
F&AM; and a deacon and the oldest member of the New Richland Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ruth H. Burns of Cochran; 4 sons, Robert M. Burns 
of Cochran, Jimmy Partain and Oliver Partain, both of Macon, and Larry Partain 
of Warner Robins; two brothers, Everett Burns and J. C. Burns Sr., both of 
Cochran; and nine grandchildren.
Active pallbearers Earl Hamrick, Dan Vaughn, Frank M. Barrow, David Crenshaw, 
Doug Elder, and Roy Cochran.
Brethren of Masonic Lodge #133, members of the Georgia State Patrol, and 
Deacons of the New Richland Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.
Mathis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Additional Comments:
 Mercer Burns was born 7-14-1892 and died 6-12-1978 and is buried in new 
Richland Baptist Church in Twiggs County.
Note-The U. S. Veterans Gravesites , Pvt US Army World War I, has him buried in 
Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery in Cochran, Georgia. His obituary shows the 
New Richland Baptist Church in Twiggs County where there is a tombstone besides 
his first wife, Annie Clara Belle Asbell Burns.y.
