The Berrien Press - March 13, 2013
Eleanor Frances Parrish, 95, died March 5, 2013, at the Southern Senior Living
Center in Adel.
She was born at home at 317 South Parrish Avenue in Adel on January 2, 1918,
to the late Guy Ashley and Ethel Dunn Parrish. She graduated from Sparks-Adel
High School in 1934 and from Brenau College in 1938 with a bachelor-of arts
degree. After working as a bookkeeper during World War II for several
businesses in Adel, she moved to New York City to study interior design at the
New York School of Interior Design where she graduated and worked at Lord &
Taylor serving clientele in the custom furniture and design fields. She briefly
returned to Adel in 1958 to care for her aging parents when their health
deteriorated and returned permanently in 1962 when her father's health failed
again. She continued working in the interior design business in Valdosta and
opened her own business in her home in 1966.
She was a member of Adel Presbyterian Church, the Cook County Historical
Society and the American Association of Interior Designers. She also worked as
a volunteer for the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. Her life
was punctuated with travel, both domestic and international. She attributed her
longevity to eating a healthy diet and doing so in moderation and was
affectionately known as Aunt Anna to relatives and friends. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Parrish Twomey.
Survivors include her niece, Julia (Julius) Ariail, and nephew, Bill (Sonya)
Twomey; her great-nieces and nephews, James G. (Meghan) Connell, III, Ashley C.
(Keith) Meade, Elizabeth A. (Joshua) Varner, Jonathan B. (Christie) Ariail,
Katherine Twomey, Erin Twomey, and Caroline Twomey; great-great-nieces and
nephews, Brennan Connell, Phoenix Connell, Keifer Meade, Emerson Meade,
Benjamin Varner, Laura Varner, Evan Ariail and Amy Grace Ariail.
A graveside service was held at 5 p.m. on March 8 at Woodlawn City Cemetery in
Adel with Rev. Dillard Ensley officiating.
Boone Funeral Home of Adel was in charge of arrangements.
