 Lloyd Duke, Jr. 87, of Adel died January 14, 2008 at his residence.
 Born February 22, 1920 in Morgan to the late Sally Jones and Luther Lloyd 
Duke, Sr., in 1927 he moved from Lake Park to Adel to help his family begin 
Adel Ice Co., which continues under third generation, L.L. "Buddy" Dukes, III. 
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He was a veteran of 
the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He was married to the late Mary Kate 
McLendon Duke.
 Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, L.L. "Buddy" Duke, III, of 
Adel and Max and Kellie Duke of Avon Park, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and 
Pat Patten of Adel; brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Carolyn Duke of 
Gainesville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Fay and Gene Brown of Valdosta; 
sister-in-law, Margaret McCartney of Adel; grandchildren, Dr. Ken W. and Staci 
Register of Valdosta, Kayley, Garrett and Little Buddy Duke of Avon Park, 
Keican Luke Duke of Adel; great-grandchildren, Kaid, Kennadi and Kamden 
Register of Valdosta; a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death 
by two brothers, Vinson A Duke and Homer A. Duke and sister, Peggy Duke Smith.
 Funeral services were held January 16 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of 
Adel with the Revs. Ben Smith and Pat Patten officiating. A eulogy was given by 
Tom Thomas, Sr. and remarks were given by Stephen Griffin. An essay 
entitled "My Favorite Older Person" was read by Garrett Duke, grandson, Sheila 
Humber served as pianist and Joanna Cooksey, organist. Steve Meders sang "When 
I Get Where I'm Going," and the congregation sang "When We All Get to Heaven." 
Special selections included "Old Folks at Home" (Suwanne River song) 
and "Amazing Grace.
 Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
 Active pallbearers were Dr. Ken Register, Garrett Duke, Little Buddy Duke, 
Kirk Duke, Blake Duke, Stephen Griffin, Maxwell Smith, Michael Folsom.
 Honorary pallbearers were Jackson Connell, John Henry Surrency, John Henry 
Folsom, J.H. Parrish, Pete Boone, Tommy Cotton, Joe Lewis, Vern Alderman, Van 
Alderman, Kenneth Saunders, Jim Reeves, Tom Thomas, Sr., Leon George, Aubrey 
Duke.
 Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home of Adel was in charge of arrangements.
