Born on February 15, 1918 in Berrien County, Mr. Purvis spent most of his adult
life in Tifton. Preceding him in death are his loving wife of 63 years, Myrtle
Davis Purvis; his parents, E. B. Purvis, Sr. and Janie Sirmans Purvis; all of
his siblings, baby sister, Doris Purvis, Malone Purvis Connor, Clyde Purvis, Leo
Purvis, E. B. Purvis, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Powell Purvis. Mr.
Purvis is survived by his daughter, Elayne Purvis Cook, and his son, Wesley
Rudolph Purvis, both of Tifton; granddaughters, Marily Purvis Ring, wife of
Jarrod Ring, of Tifton, Joannah Cook of Atlanta, and Brandy Cook Shepard, wife
of Thaxton Shepard, of Comer; one sister-in-law, Inez Purvis Wheeler of Alapaha;
two great grandsons, Gabriel Shepard and Hunter Ring; and several nieces and
nephews. For many years, Mr. Purvis delivered milk and ice cream within the
Tifton service area. His son, Wesley, at a avery young age, accompanied his
father in the delivery of ice cream and they became very popular among friends
and children when they passed out free ice cream samples. Followin his
retirement from Bordens, Inc., Mr. Purvis purchased and operated Purvis Grocery
and Market on Second Street in Tifton for 20 years before passing the business
to his son. Mr. Purvis was a very kind and compassionate man and a man of
strength and courage. He provided the essential needs for his family and
assisted many other families and friends in times of need. He was the ultimate
caregiver for 10 years to his loving disabled wife. Mr. Purvis was the family
historian who maintained written records of his ancestry and recorded each
family and extended family member's births, deaths and burial site. The family
extends their deepest gratitude to retired Dr. Joseph Turner, Nurse Faye Busbin,
and the staff at the Bradley Place and Tift Health Care Nursing Home and Adult
Day Care Center for medical and convalescence care
throughout the years. Special thanks to friends, Billie Blalock and Dianne
Phillips for their continued support. Charitable donations may be made in honor
of Mr. Purvis to the Tifton Primitive Baptist Church.
