The Berrien Press -- Leroy L. "Pop" Carter, Jr., 84, of Tifton died December 
9, 2007 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
 Funeral services were held December 12 at 11 a.m. at Eastside Baptist Church 
with the Revs. Jim Wiley and Andy Ring officiating.
 Interment was in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
 Active pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.
 Honorary pallbearers were the Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and 
members of the Joy Sunday School Class of Eastside Baptist Church.
 He was born October 20, 1923 in Ray City to the late Lou Annie Webb and Leroy 
Lorenzo Carter, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Hiers 
Carter who died May 14, 1999.
 He was a longtime resident of Tifton and formerly lived in Valdosta. He 
served as a radio operator on a bomber plane in the U.S. Army Air Corp, Eighth 
Air Force, in the European Theater of Operations in WWII. He retired as a 
parts salesman for Long Mfg. and Brooks Auto/NAPA Auto Parts. He was a 
dedicated member of Eastside Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class 
and enjoyed reading his Bible. He did the sign in front of the church for many 
years. He was also a Red Coat with Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for 
many years. He enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, sports and coaching his 
kids' teams. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He 
enjoyed socializing, dancing and Big Band music.
 Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard E. and Brenda 
Carter and Randy L. and Belinda Carter all of Tifton, and Bruce O. and Sabrina 
Carter of Rincon; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn C. and D. L. Lastinger 
of Tifton; one sister, Peggy Jones of Valdosta; grandchildren, Deborah and 
Donald Smith, Jr., Michael and DeeDee Fulghum, Jeff Fulghum, Stephen and 
Charee Fulghum, Stacy and Andy Ring, Kimberly Carter, Kay and Gary Lupo, Roy 
Carter, Samantha Carter, Erin Carter, Luke Carter, Mackensie Carter; great-
grandchildren, Austin SMith, Karli Smith, Ross Fulghum, Lauren Fulghum, Carter 
Ring, Alli Ring, Britney Barfiel, Garritt Lupo, Emma Cate Fulghum.
 Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
