The Last Will and Testament of George Hardin of Springhill Township
Fayette County Pennsylvania, In the name of God, I George Hardin,
condering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound mind and
memory blessed be God for the same, do make and publish this my last will
and testament, in manner and form following, viz,
Item first| I have made a line through my land, which line I wish to
stand hereafter, and which line shall be called Division line, beginning at a
corner stone agreed upon between Charles Griffin and myself, in the peace sake
tract, near the fence of George Hardin thence S 48 degrees W 80 perches 5
tenths to stones, S 25 3/4 Deg W 26 P 4 ten to stones, N. 57 Deg W. 45
P 7 tenths to a stone near a white oak, S 32 Deg W. 27 perches 8 tenths to
a white oak, S. 13 Deg. W 36 P 9 tenths to a sugar tree North 83 1/4 Deg
W 33 P to a sugar tree, S. 3/4 Deg. E 27 P to stones at school house.
Item 2nd| I give to Polly Lambeth my housekeeper two hundered and
fifty dollars in money, one cow and one bed, her choice one double drawer
Desk standing in the room I sleep in, one cooking stove and the trimings
thereto belonging, one ten Gallon brass kettle, and all of the kitchen furniture,
said Polly shall have one of the rooms in the house I lately built on the
Morgantown Road, and two acres of land adjoining thereto, during her life,
said Polly takes the above in full for all servises rendered as housekeeper for
me +c,
Item 3rd| I give and bequeath to my two sons Jackson and William Hardin
(Alias Lambeth) sons of the above named Polly Lambeth, a tract of land on
which I now live, containing one hundred and seventy acres, more or less, to
be laid off as follows, Begining at a stone corner of Wm Stewarts and myself
beside the schoolhouse, thence by Stewart S. 1/2 Deg W 63 Per. 1 tenth to a
stone corner formerly a remarkable large white oak, thence S 13 Deg E 63
Per to a stone near a branch, thence S. 10 deg. W 97 per 3 tenths to a stone
in Jacob Gans land, thence by Gans, N 75 deg W. 54 per to a hickory tree,
thence by Gans, and Oliphants N 26 1/2 deg W. 241 per to dividing corner of
Cato Hardin and myself, thence on the line of twelve acres I bought of said
Cato Hardin, N 76 Deg E 172 per to a stone thence N 8 3/4 E 18 per to a
sugartree in the division line thence S 3/4 E 27 per to the begining at the
schoolhouse, And if either of them the said Jackson or William should die
leaving no issue, the survivor is to have the property above mentioned, but idf
the said Jackson and William should both be called hence leaving no issue
then my other children are to enjoy the property above stated, subject always
to the lifetime of Polly Lambeth as stated in Item second, I likewise give the
said Jackson and William each a horse, and each a cow, and each a bed and
equipage, I likewise give William my bookcase and my books,
Item 4th| I give to Esaw Hardin my son a piece of land containing one
hundred and four acres be it more or less on which he lives joining the division
line described in Item first of this will, and joining land of Wm Stewart and
Charles Griffin.
Item 5th| I give to my Daughter Sarah Reynold one lot of land where
she now lives, containing thirty four acres to be laid off joining the division
line, and line of Jackson and William Hardin above mentioned, and Oliphant,
so as to include thirty four acres, further my wishes that John Reynolds the
husband of the siad Sarah shall have no interest in the lot above mentioned
and no debts of his contracting shall stand as a lien against the said lot.
Item 6th| I give to my son George Hardin a piece of land containing
Eighty acres more or less, where he now lives joining the land last mentioned,
Oliphant, Charles Griffin and the division line mentioned in Item first of this
will.
Item 7th| I give to my two Daughters Catherine Reed and Alice Stewart
to each of them Eight hundred Dollars to be paid to them in money as soon as
this my will becomes a record,
Item 8th| It is my wish that three hundred dollars in money shall be put
in the hands of Esaw Hardin and that Marthy Hardin my Daughter shall
draw the yearly Interest for the same from Esaw, further the real estate I
have given to the said Esaw, shall be bound for his puntual performance to her
annually, if the said Esaw does wee and truly pay her, her Interest and
giving her no trouble, he shall pay five percent, if otherwise six percent, five
years after this will becomes on record, the above said Marthy shall draw
from the said Esaw one hundred and fifty dollars of the above legacy and three
years after the first payment said Esaw shall pay her the said Marthy the
remaining one hundred and fifty dollars.
Item 9th| my personal property shall be sold by my Executors according to
law and custom, and after the foregoing mentioned legacy,s are all paid, and
all debts paid the balance shall be equally divided among the above mentioned
legatees, further if their should be property when this becomes a record, sue
has grain in the ground +c the owner of the ground shall be the owner of the
grain,
And Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint Esaw Hardin and William
hardin my Executors, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made, In
Witness whereof I have hereunto ste my hand and seal the twenty fourth day
of January, in the year of our Lord

in the presence of us, who at his request, and
in his presence have subscribed our names

No 1 Codicil
Whereas I George Hardin of the Township of Sprinhill in the County of
Fayette in the State of Pennsylvania, have made my last will and Testament
in writing bearing date the twenty fourth day of January in the year of Our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six, In which I have given and
bequeathed to Mary Lambert my house keeper two hundred and fifty dollars
and on reflection I have concluded to increase her bequest from two hundred
and fifty dollars to five hundred dollars and no more, Which she is to receive
as a full compensation for all her services rendered.
Further I had bequeathed in the will above refered to my Daughter
Martha three hundred dollars, But now am determined to increase her
bequest to the sum of six hundred dollars and no more, to be paid to her at
my decease, Further I give and bequeath to Lydia Molosy my grand
daughter one hundred dollars to be paid to her at my decease,
I also give and bequeath unto my grand children, Jane Harden and
George Harden daughter and son of Esaw Harden each twenty dollars further
I give and bequeath to George Hardin son of George Hardin Sr. twenty
dollars further I give and bequeath to George Reynolds son of Sally
Reynolds twenty dollars and further I give and bequeath to George Reed son
of Catherine Reed twenty dollars, all those several sums of twenty dollars
bestowed among my several grand children shall be paid over by my
Executors to their Mothers for their use on demand after my decease,
I do further make constitute and appoint my son William Hardin Executor
of my last will and testament he to settle up my whole estate hereby revoking
all other appointments and he to be my soul Executor, and what ever Moneys
is left on hand after the estate is fully settled up to be payed over by my
Executor in equal amounts to George Hardin Jr. Esaw Hardin William
Hardin and Jackson Hardin as a bequest to them. In witness whereof I have
hereunto subscribed my name to this codicil of my last will and testament and affixed my
seal this seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
fifty three.

The above written instrument was subscribed by the said George Hardin in our presence
and acknowledged by him to each of us as codicil no one of his last will and testament and
desired the above to be published and declared as such, and wee at the testators request in
his presence, now signed our names as witnesses hereto.

Fayette County Ss. On the 28th day of January Anna Domini 1854 before
me, the subscriber Register for the probate of Wills & granting letters of
administration in & for said county personally appeared Jacob Gans & Jesse
Leech subscribibg witnesses to the foregoing instrument of writing purporting
to be the last Will and Testament of George Hardin late of said County decd
and being duly qualified and say that they were present & saw and heard the
Testator sign, seal, publish & declare the same as and for his last Will &
Testament, when of sound mind memory & understanding that no undue
interference was used, that they at the request & in the presence of the
testator & of each other signed the same as witness: And on the same day
appeared William Gans, the first named witness to the Codicil No 1 of this
same will who being duly affirmed & in Connection with Jacob Gans the
other witness to the said Codicil-did say that they were present & saw the
and sign seal publish & declare the said Codicil No. 1 as & for a Codicil to
his last will & testament, whereof sound mind & understanding, that no
undue influence was used that they know of no latter wile or council made by
the testator that at the request & in the presence of the testor & each other
they signed the same as witnesses. Witness my hand & seal of the Registers
